BASS Awards nominations out – Bandana says 'Mi No Need Ya Award'
The final nominations list for the first annual BASS Awards has been released by the organizer of the Awards. Preceding the release of the nominations, the Awards committee headed by Daddy Bosco had been meeting for three weeks, working to prune down the number to the present list after more than 300 songs were entered for this year’s Awards. Songs that got nominated for the awards this year are reggae/dancehall songs released between 2010 – 2012. Conspicuously missing from the nominations list is Bandana who according to the committee declined to be part of the Awards, he is said to have written on his facebook page declining to be part of the Awards. Two songs from Samini “Papistic” and “Body flame” all featuring Kaakie, were missing from the nominations, these two were disqualified during the shortlisting process due to its sexually explicit lyrics, Daddy Bosco explained, adding that one of the criteria that qualifies a particular song to be nominated is it’s lyrics, “Lyrics must obviously be clean and devoid of swear words, violence and should not be sexually suggestive”. Samini’s other song, Time bomb featuring Nigerian music star Wizkid was however nominated by the committee in three different categories. Bass Awards comes off at the National Theater on 6th July, 2013, preceding that will be a nominees Jam featuring Jamaican Dancehall act Elephant Man, Samini, Stonebuoy, Jupiter, Kaakie, Natural face among other acts.
