British pop superstar, George Michael died of heart failure on Christmas Day, according to his longtime manager Michael Lippman. The singer, songwriter and record producer was found dead at his home in Goring in Oxfordshire, England, Lippman said.
“I’m devastated,” Lippman said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. He received a call Sunday morning informing him that Michael was found “in bed, lying peacefully.”
The exact time of former Wham! frontman’s death remained unclear, but Lippman said there was “no foul play whatsoever.” The manager further said that Michael’s death due to heart failure was unexpected. His funeral plans are expected to be announced shortly.
Meanwhile, Kenny Goss, whom George Michael dated for 13 years and once intended to marry, says he is grief-stricken after the British singer’s sudden death this weekend.
Describing Michael as his “dear friend and longtime love,” Goss told PEOPLE in a statement. “I’m heartbroken. … He was a major part of my life and I loved him very, very much.”
“He was an extremely kind and generous man,” Goss said.
Goss and Michael began dating in the ’90s, after Michael emerged from a “deep black hole” of depression following the death of his first true love, Anselmo Feleppa.
