2013 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards nomination out on February 23 + board struggles to get nominations for Highlife and Reggae genres
Preparations towards the 14th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards have kicked off in earnest. Mrs Theresa Ayoade, Executive Director of Charterhouse Productions the organizers of the event revealed: “The Board has been in place since January 2013 and has been working on shortlisting, categorizing and verifying the various entries. It’s been a very challenging process and gives us a fair idea of how the industry has fared over the past year, the emerging trends in the music industry and so on”. Reports from the VGMA Board Room indicate that some categories such as Highlife and Reggae/Ragga are starving of entries whiles others such as HipLife are oversubscribed with very strong competition in the “Collaboration of the Year”. The Hip hop and Afro Pop categories have seen a fair amount of impactful entries but the surprising discovery of all is the Gospel Category which in previous editions has been very competitive but hasn’t seen much impactful activity this year. The question thus arises: Is Gospel Music, the leading genre in times past, suffering? The full nomination list will be announced at the event launch slated for February 23rd. This year’s event, being the 2nd year of the new partnership with Vodafone promises to build on the giant strides taken last year to propel the industry to THE NEXT LEVEL – which is the theme for this year. The VGMA is produced by events powerhouse – Charterhouse with support from Golden Tulip Hotel and sponsored by Vodafone. ]]>
