The most popular South African hip hop artists

Many hip-hop artists from South Africa have been huge because of their versatility and pure artistry which are rooted in the country’s culture. Some of them have also collaborated with artists from the United States which is the focal point of the industry. Here are some of the biggest names in the South African hip-hop community and how they made an impact on the scene.

Cassper Nyovest

A decade into his career, Cassper has become one of the most popular artists in South Africa. He is mostly known as a rapper but he is a well-rounded person because he also dabbles into music production and is the man behind the Family Tree Records label. Cassper is an influential figure in the South African music industry and at only 31 years of age, he has more years to improve on his legacy in South Africa.

Apart from his time as a hip-hop artist, Cassper has also dabbled in other industries. Crypto casino site Bitcasino and Cassper have established a relationship with each other as he functions as an ambassador and a popular figure that spreads the good word about crypto. That is just one part of his business outside music but he never forgets where he came from.

Cassper has multiple big hits and his albums have been well-received by the public and critics alike. His most well-known project is probably his third studio album called Thuto back in 2018. Some of his critically-acclaimed projects are A.M.N and Sweet and Short 2.0. These albums were strong examples of the peak performance of a South African artist.

As his career has progressed, he has earned tons of recognition in South Africa and he has even become popular around the world with some of his songs. His song titled There They Go was released in 2020 which was his first track under the Def Jam label and became popular worldwide.

That was enough to make him take part in talent shows at his school which continued to happen into his late teens. He kept working hard to be recognised and he got a big break when he appeared on Channel O’s show called HeadRush. He was part of a rap trio called the African Trap Movement afterwards before he embarked on his solo career.

In 2015, he released his debut single called Roll Up which ended up becoming one of the biggest songs in the country. With Roll Up serving as one of the top singles of his debut album, it was a good start for his career. The record called Avery continued to spread through the radio airwaves in the country and it eventually jumpstarted eMTee’s career into the forefront of the South African hip hop scene.
