Classifying Black Sherif’s music as Highlife could project the genre globally- Akwaboah
Ghanaian Highlife musician, Akwaboah has classified Black Sherif’s music as under the Highlife genre.
According to Akwaboah, Black Sherif’s music is Highlife, even though it its been marketed to the world as Afrobeats/Hiphop.
“I will describe most of the songs Black Sherif does as Highlife,” Akwaboah told Kojo Yankson on Joy FM’s morning show.
Explaining his point, Akwaboah argued that “When you listen to the way he [Black Sherif] sings and everything, it is evident he is a Highlife artiste, but he has been pushed to Hiphop.”

The “Obiaa” hitmaker opined that Black Sherif could have revived the Highlife genre globally, if his music was been marketed as Highlife.
“So going global, imagine calling what he is doing Highlife, that would have been Highlife on the map he projected. But in a way it appears we are pushing him into hip hop or Afrobeats.
“So now what is happening is, he is out there but they are calling it Hiphop or Afrobeats,” he added.
