Adisco bites the dust as St. Hubert triumph

Adisadel College’s dream of a second successive Senior Sharks Quiz final appearance has been extinguished.

Holding the extinguisher that quenched Adisadel College’s fire was St. Hubert Seminary and SHS (Sahuss).

The two schools met at the Round of 16 of Senior Sharks 7, with the prize for winning this contest? a place among the revered “Elite 8”.

Adisadel College (Adisco) were appearing in their first contest as a Super Ranked School, while St. Hubert reached this stage after two comprehensive victories against Aggrey Memorial SHS and Tamale Islamic Science SHS, in that order.

Coming on the back of a successful Senior Sharks 6 campaign, where they earned the accolade “come back kings”, Adisco were the obvious pick in this contest.

Against debutants St. Hubert (Suhass), their start in the contest was also good, even going ahead to win two more rounds of this contest.

It was the R Cubed Round, and in particular the Arithmetic that dealt a mortifying blow to the chances of the famed ‘Zebra boys’.

St. Hubert were simply outstanding in Arithmetic, and their A+ score in this contest consistent with their Senior Sharks 7 performances.

In the end, just one round was all St. Hubert needed to record the first shock of the Round of 16, Senior Sharks 7.

Right Corner Round

The key to the commencement of this contest was in the hands of Adisadel College.

Their end product after opening this contest was not bad, but definitely could have been better.

Adisco ended the round with thirty (30) points whereas St. Hubert Seminary and SHS came through with just ten (10) points.

R Cubed Round

Against Aggrey Memorial, St. Hubert earned sixty (60) points, and returned another fifty-five (55) points against Tamale Islamic Science SHS.

But Sharks fans were not ready for the greatness that was about to pan out before their very eyes in this contest.

Main question- bagged; bonus question- bagged, main question- bagged; and on and on, and on.

St. Hubert was simply out of this world in this round, while Adisco were buzzing purposelessly to end the round with negative ten (-10) points.

St. Hubert Seminary meanwhile had their nerves relaxed after earning a gigantic eighty-five (85) points. That’s major!

STEM Round

At the start of Round 3, Adisadel College contestants had cut forlorn figures and looked shell-shocked.

But they once again gave a semblance of the traits that helped them all the way to the grand finale of Senior Sharks 6.

The Santaclausians, as they are affectionately called, won this round with fifteen (15) points as against the negative five (-5) St. Hubert earned.

Clearly it was still a long way to recovering from the self-destructive performance Adisco put up in the R Cubed Round.

One-on-one Round

The facts were incontestable- Adisco had to earn at least sixty (60) points and pray to Nicholas, their patron Saint, that Saint Hubert does not come to hunt in this round.

Presently, Masters Ebenezer and John were up against each other as English specialists when Ebenezer bagged ten (10) points for Adisco.

The second question was left answered.

Pedro and Nathaniel lined up as Math specialists for St. Hubert and Adisco respectively, but zero scores emanated from them.

Stephen from St. Hubert was the Science specialist and across the podium stood Malcolm as specialist for Adisco.

Malcolm’s answer to the first riddle gave another inconsequential ten (10) points to the Zebra Boys.

Terrence was spot on with his answer to the first question in General Knowledge but not his second attempt..

He was a specialist for Adisco as Nyakpas was for St. Hubert.

St. Hubert Seminary could not add any points to their total tally, while Adisadel College added thirty (30) points.

Thus, Adisadel College came second with sixty-five (65) points while St. Hubert ran away victorious with ninety points (90) points.

This heavy loss by Adisadel College is one of those moments in life that the where, the when, and the how are known variables, but the why remains a mystery.

Congratulations to St. Hubert Seminary and SHS, and better luck to Adisco.
