Ameyaw TV Special: The celebrities who visited Ghana in 2019 #YearOfReturn
In December 2018, the world turned its eyes on Ghana when president Nana Akufo-Addo announced that the following year would be ‘The Year of Return’, and the Full Circle Festival brought a host of African-American stars to town for Christmas that Year!
2019 saw an unprecedented influx of visitors to Ghana to mark the Year of Return, an initiative intended to encourage African diasporans to come to Africa (specifically Ghana) to settle and invest in the continent. The year 2019 is symbolic as it commemorates 400 years since the first enslaved Africans touched down in Jamestown, Virginia in the United States.
The Ghana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture have lined up a slate of activities in “celebration of the resilience of the African spirit.”
The initiative caught the eyes of dozens of celebrities, who took a personal trip to Ghana to experience the people, culture and rich history. Ameyaw TV has compiled these visit in our Year of Return special:
