An unforgettable week for Sarkodie as he battles the loss of a loved one and a scandal
The third week of June, 2023 will forever be etched in the mind of award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie.
Although June was meant to be filled with lots of good memories as he interacts and performs with his fans on the “Jamz World Tour,” Sarkodie has rather been hit with two major life-changing events; first, his affair with actress Yvonne Nelson from over 10 years ago which has now been made public, and the tragic loss of his lawyer, Cynthia Quarcoo Esq.
On Monday June 19, social media was hit with the news of “Africa’s Most Decorated” rapper’s sexual affair with screen goddess Yvonne Nelson. Yvonne Nelson had made the affair public via her memoir, “I am not Yvonne Nelson.”
According to Yvonne, Sarkodie had impregnated her and asked that she abort the baby. Yvonne narrates that the incident happened back when Sarkodie was still struggling to find his feet.

“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm what becomes the most obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman who misses her monthly flow. I was in the company of Karen. And when the test result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it. She did and declared the verdict. “Charlie, it dey there!” she exclaimed.
“On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down. I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie,” Yvonne shared in her book.
This new information by Yvonne, shook Ghanaians, but most especially, the fanbase of the rapper who hitherto, had no dent on his image.
While the rapper, his family and fans were still trying to wrap their heads around the new information, they were hit with another life-changing news barely two days after; Sarkodie’s famed lawyer, and a very important person in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, Cynthia Quarcoo Esq. had tragically lost her life.
The news about the death of Cynthia had come in the late hours of Wednesday, June 21. She had reportedly died after suffering a short illness. The reports of her death shook the entertainment industry to the core, but most especially, Sarkodie and his family, as well as those that she worked closely with.
Cynthia was a very important person in the life of the rapper and his family. She would be spotted with Sarkodie at almost every important event or business meeting.
The rapper and his wife have both taken to social media to share the news about her death and write a moving tribute. In a heartfelt post via his Insta stories, Sarkodie shared the journey of their beautiful friendship and work relationship.
“First time we met I knew you were supposed to be part of this journey. You knew everything about me it almost felt like you were stalking me and I was moved and I said to my self “now that’s my lawyer!” From our first meeting, we’ve never been apart till date … So many memories it’s going to be real hard to get over this,” he wrote.
Sarkodie who affectionately referred to her as “Mama Cee” shared that he was not aware of her illness, as she kept that information from him because she did not want to feel bad for her.
“One of the few people I open up to. Mama Cee!! At least you should’ve told me you aren’t feeling well but knowing you I know you hate us feeling bad for you. You left exactly how you wanted ( strong ) a classic Mama C,” he wrote.
He continued; “This is going to be a very difficult one for all of us but I guess that’s the price to pay when you open up to love . It was unusual I hadn’t heard from you in these few days because knowing my mama Cee she will be the first person to text me worried then tease me … sent you a WhatsApp asking ” Mama C Na mentee wonka oo ©” but after several hours seeing two ticks I felt something was wrong then they broke the news to me. We know what you would love for all of us (to be strong ) we will try of us ( to be strong ) we will try Mama C! J. Condolences to the family and friends especially the children… let’s stay strong.”
These are indeed trying times for the rapper and his family. Continue to hold them in prayer as they navigate their way through this difficult time.
