Kumasi drill sensation, The Asakaa Boys have had social media talking after making some revelations about their journey in the Ghanaian music industry.

During a Twitter Space on Tuesday, Jay Bhad, a group member, fumed about the ‘lack of support’ the group has faced since introducing the sound.

Sighting an example, he said the outright neglect by the AFROCHELLA organizers during the 2021 edition is clear evidence of lack of support.

Afrochella organized a Block Party in replacement of the actual concert amid the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. During the discussion on Twitter, Jay Bahd revealed that they were invited to perform for free. He explained that his team was of the hope that they would be called back to perform in 2021 when the organizers had more funds.

However, Jay Bahd said Afrochella resorted to other artists including foreign acts at their expense when the 2021 edition came off.
This, Jay Bahd said, were some of the reasons for their absence from some top shows during the festive season last year, because they had decided not to perform for free this time.
Also on the space, Reggie revealed that the Asakaa Boys had chosen to perform without remuneration in 2020 because they had hoped the platform would give them a bigger mileage.

Breaking The Bias In The Banking Sector, UBA Ghana Leads The Way With The Appointement Of 17 Female Branch Managers Out Of 28

Following this revelation, co-founders of the music and arts festival, Edward Asafu Adjaye and Ken Agyapong Jnr granted an interview on Joy Prime where they insisted that their outfit paid the music stars and offered receipts to confirm it. During a live broadcast of their interview, the host of the show, Jay Foley, who was given the receipt read out some part of it.

“Rocky Boateng is the manager, he did receive an amount here, I don’t want to mention the amount, that will spark another controversy and this is dated received on the 24th of December 2020 and another one is also dated 17th December as well,” Jay Foley read.

“If you didn’t get paid, you have the right to say it, but you got paid. It would help if you talked to the management. You just want to embarrass us, and all the blogs are picking it up. Everybody is writing stories saying, ‘Afrochella don’t pay artistes, but they want to go on lavish vacations,” Mr. Agyapong said.

He added that, among other things, Afrochella helped the Asakaa Boys get their passports to the US and also secured them a feature on popular online publication, Teen Vogue.
