Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan was expected to arrive in the country from his United Arab Emirate (UAE) base on Thursday for the final funeral rites of his late mother Cecelia Love Amoako. CEO of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation Sammy Anim Addo told Daily Guide Sports in a telephone interview that all was set for the funeral which is expected to draw high profile sports personalities from far and near this weekend.
He hinted that the bereaved skipper may be joined by top officials of Al-Ain on Thursday for the expected grand funeral which would be preceded by a wake keeping at the deceased’s Gbawe residence in Accra. Besides coming to bid his mother farewell, Gyan would be expected to lead the Black Stars against their Sudanese counterparts in the 2014 World Cup qualifier next weekend, March 24, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
