Aspring Nigerian President Peter Obi, reacts to throwback video of his running mate calling for the killing of LGBTQ people
The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to a throwback video of his running mate, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, calling for the killing of LGBTQ members.
Baba-Ahmed was a Senator when the anti-gay bill was being considered in the Nigerian Senate. While making his own contribution during plenary in 2014, Baba-Ahmed opined that such ”elements” should be killed in the society.
”Actually such elements in the society should be killed” he said
Shortly after he was announced as Peter Obi’s running mate, Nigerians dug up the video of Baba-Ahmed calling for the elimination of gays.

In a recent interview with a radio station, Peter Obi was asked to react to his running mate’s comment which some people found distasteful. He said;
” 2014 to today is about eight years. But that not withstanding, we all have made comments that we believe in and it is allowed. I for one is tolerant of people’s views and their lifestyle. This is me. As long as it doesn’t affect my interest. For me, we jave more critical issues to deal with Today and that is what I will be concentrating on”

The Un Certain Regard Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes
The Canadian actor, director, screenwriter and producer Xavier Dolan will be the President of the Un Certain Regard Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes. He will be joined by French-Senegalese screenwriter and director Maïmouna Doucouré, Moroccan director, screenwriter and producer Asmae El Moudir, German-Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps, and American film critic, director, and writer Todd McCarthy. They will be in charge of awarding prizes for the Un Certain Regard section, which showcases art and discovery films by young auteurs.
This year, 18 films have been selected, including 8 first films. The 2023 Un Certain Regard top prize went to director Molly Manning Walker’s debut feature How to Have Sex.
When the light breaks by Rúnar Rúnarsson will open the Un Certain Regard section on Wednesday May 15, 2024.
