Tony Shhnow, a staple in Atlanta’s underground hip-hop scene has just shared his new project Reflexions. Across 18-tracks, Tony guides listeners through his candid Reflexions over a sea of lucid instrumentation, polished finesse, and show-stopping lyricism. On par with any offering from Tony Shhnow, Reflexions is an abstract blend of the extensive styles at Tony’s disposal––combining the iconic trap sound and emerging “plugg” scene of his hometown of Atlanta with classic hip-hop wordplay and R&B-inspired beats. LISTEN

On “Days Get Cold”, a clever flip of Ashanti’s Foolish”, Tony waxes poetic about his constant pursuit of cash & incorrigible lover-boy ways over a sweet set of keys and gleaming synths.“Park The Car” is a head-banging cut that seamlessly combines Tony’s nonchalant delivery with thrashing production, amounting to a track primed for an exhilarating mosh pit. Tony brings along an impressive guest list for the project with features from fellow underground standouts like Zelooperz, Matt OX, Bear1Boss, as well as production from CardoGotWings on “Forgive Don’t Forget” and an appearance from Atlanta legend OJ Da Juiceman. Reflexions is a worthwhile encapsulation of Tony’s journey to constantly reinvent his eclectic sound, express the most honest version of himself on the mic, and produce music on the cutting-edge of the blossoming underground of hip-hop.

If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that trying to keep up with Tony Shhnow is impossible. In the span of 12 months, Tony dropped a whopping 7 successful projects, a feat that has truly separated him from the pack. As described by Pitchfork, “Tony’s consistent and overwhelming output has quickly made him a breakout of Atlanta rap’s underground.” Through the projects he’s dropped in 2021, including 48 Laws of Power, 48 Laws of Flower 2 (Art of Production), Authentic Goods, RPS N PLAN BS ll with 10kDunkin, Dis Should Hold You Over 2, and kicking off 2022 with Kill Streak 2 (Deluxe), Tony has been releasing music in the vein of Atlanta’s trap superstars of the 2010s and has no plans on stopping. Tony continued his hot streak in 2022 by hitting the road with budding Boston rapper Cousin Stizz for a multi-city tour this Spring. Earlier this month, Tony released “Last Chance” (feat. Zelooperz) and “Keep In Touch” as the lead singles leading up to Reflexions. Through his gripping visuals and non-stop work ethic, Tony has solidified himself in the next generation of Atlanta artists poised for stardom.

Tony Shhnow is the upper-echelon of hip-hop’s bubbling underground scene, and through a slew of mixtapes, quick-witted flows, and an unabridged drive, Tony has captured the hearts of hip-hop stans and critics alike. Tony is from Cobb County in Georgia and from his old-school aesthetics in his visuals, the constant change of his style, and unceasing release schedule, he is the embodiment of everything that’s made Atlanta the Mecca of modern hip-hop. After grinding for years on the underground circuit and playing a huge role in the popularization of the “plugg” sound that has taken over Soundcloud, Tony made serious waves with his 2020 mixtape Kill Streak, a tape that received high praise from Pitchfork. Since then, Tony’s run has not slowed down at all, he’s capitalized on the momentum through a constant stream of experimental music videos, well-crafted mixtapes, and show-stopping features. Through his non-stop work ethic, clear-cut vision, and natural talent on the mic––Tony Shhnow has solidified himself in the next generation of superstars in hip-hop.

EQUAL Africa Cover Simi

Global streaming giant, Spotify, announced today that Nigerian singer-songwriter Simi has been selected as Spotify EQUAL Africa music programme ambassador for July. This announcement follows the release of her latest album, ‘TBH (To Be Honest)’ which came out in June.

Simi joins other Nigerian artists,Tiwa Savage, Ayra Starr, Asa, and FAVE to be part of EQUAL Africa, which aims to  spotlight and amplify the voices of talented African female artists making waves in the music scene. She also becomes only the second African artist after Tiwa Savage to be named as an EQUAL Global and EQUAL Africa artist.

The Nigerian musician, sound engineer and actress, Simi Bolatito Ogunleye, started her musical journey as a chorister in church. Starting her musical career as a gospel singer, Simi released her debut studio album ‘Ogaju’ in 2008 before switching genres to Afro-pop. Her 2016 single, ‘Jamb Question’, was a massive hit, topping music charts for weeks. In 2020, Simi garnered even more buzz in the industry after she released her famous song, ‘Duduke’, which celebrated the birth of her daughter. ‘Duduke’ was one of the most played songs of the year in Nigeria, a further testament to Simi’s musical prowess.

“Striving and thriving as a woman in a male dominated industry has taken years of practice to master,” says Simi. “You go from being scared of it, to being intimidated by it, to being brave enough for it and then finally, to conquering it. I’ve almost always had to do way more than my male peers to prove myself. But, because of my love for music, I have been relentless and proud to do this work. I certainly hope, with all my heart, that the women who continue to come after me find it easier to shine in the way they deserve.”

Spotify welcomes Simi to the EQUAL programme which aims to foster gender equality and provide a platform to celebrate influential female artists. She joins a  list of talented African women who are driving the culture and breaking through barriers in the music industry.

“We are proud to welcome Simi to the EQUAL programme, and we’re so excited to see where her talent continues to take her from strength to strength,” says Spotify’s head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu.

The EQUAL programme spans seven categories, which include the EQUAL Artists of the Month and the EQUAL local playlists. As the latest artist to join the EQUAL Africa and Global Music Programs, Simi will be featured on the EQUAL Africa and the EQUAL Global playlists.
