‘Azumah: The Ghanaian Hero’, Short Animation Film Officially Selected To Be Screened At ANNECY 2021

‘Azumah: The Ghanaian Hero’, short animation film produced by Indigene BROS LLC has been officially selected to be screened at this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival under the programs entitled, “The African Animation, Today”. The program will be screened two (2) times during the festival week (June 14th – 19th).

 

‘Azumah: The Ghanaian Hero’, during the 2019 edition of Annecy International Animation Film Festival, became the first West African animation film to be officially selected for the biggest animation film festival in the world (ANNECY) under the Perspectives category. The short film, which is under the ‘I Believe in Ghana’ project by Indigene BROS LLC – Ghana’s most celebrated animation studio – is the second of a trio of short animated films to be produced under the project. The ‘I Believe in Ghana’ project, seeks to create Ghanaian public awareness on the role we all play in national development through patriotism while activating a patriot mentality.

 

The short film, ‘Azumah: The Ghanaian Hero’ focuses on the real-life story of Azumah Nelson’s heroic, patriotic journey of becoming the greatest African Boxer of all time: “Azumah Nelson, an underdog, is only given 2 weeks’ notice to prepare for his first international fight. Even though he loses in the very last round by TKO, this is the start of a warrior’s journey to becoming the greatest African Boxer of all time. The short film has won different awards at different film festivals around the world.

The 2021 edition of ANNECY will also feature an official selection of the animation short film, “Room 5” by Ghanaian animation studio, Animax FYB – under the Perspectives category – making it the second Ghanaian animation studio to get an official selection for the global festival. The screening of two animation short films by two Ghanaian studios is representative of the potential of animation in Ghana. Collaborative partnerships and strong linkages will support the realization of this potential.

 

Indigene BROS LLC is a wholly Ghanaian owned animation studio, focused on producing afro-centric content aimed at empowerment while supporting the preservation of African culture and heritage.
