BellaNaija Weddings presents fab photos from P-Square star Peter Okoye's wedding
“No One Like You!” Lola Omotayo and Peter Okoye of P-Square were made to be one and BellaNaija Weddings is excited to bring you an exclusive view of the lovely couple’s special day! We’re so pleased to share the photos and all the love and laughter we saw. We will detail what was going on in photos as you scroll through, as we enjoyed time with the newlyweds, so you can feel like you were with us too! The stunning red white and silver decor was designed to perfection by The Wedding Guru from roses to cascading orchid centerpieces, the guests were swept up in the romance of the hall. Ngozi Akintujoye and Omorinsola Arodundade of Perfect Coordinators planned key details of the occasion. The pair is becoming a go-to for celebrity and high-profile couples. The bride’s makeup was by Banke Meshida-Lawal of BM|Pro who also created the beauty look for the mother of the bride and the beads via her Coral Reef line. As expected for a huge celeb wedding, it was teeming with media which was coordinated and managed by PR Exec Bayo Adetu. The bride wore three fabulous ensembles – one from her Yoruba culture, an Igbo outfit for her husband and an embellished emerald green dress. The glistening and glam fabrics were from Foradora. The groom looked so happy and handsome in his maroon outfit, while his groomsmen wore grey, then he changed into a red cap representing his chieftaincy paired with a pure white attire. Guests included celebrities – from Nollywood, musicans, media personalities, politicians and of course family and friends. Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, Sayyu Dantata, Folorunsho Alakija, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi, Timi Alaibe, Obioma Liyel-Imoke, Abike Dabiri, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Rukky Sanda, Toke Makinwa, Tiwa Savage, Flavour, Iyanya, Emmanuel Adebayor, M.I, Ice Prince, Mike Ezuruonye, Dr Sid, Don Jazzy, Sasha P, Lynxxx, Timaya, Eva Alordiah, Susan Peters, “Aki and Paw Paw” – Osita Iheme and Chinedu Ikedieze amongst many others. BellaNaija Weddings wishes Lola and Peter more cute babies and a home filled with love and laughter. ~ All Photography by AkinTayoTimi exclusively for BellaNaija Weddings **** Lola & Peter’s traditional engagement took place at the Ark in Lekki, Lagos. As expected at a high profile celebrity wedding, it was strictly by invitation only! Of course BN Weddings was on the guest list Security guards checked IVs and ushered us in. If by some miracle, any uninvited guests escaped the entry gate, they would have met another set of boney-faced armed officers. After we were fully cross checked the second time, we entered a red carpet area, we guess to give attendees a celeb moment…we felt very special and welcome. The Ark is a big white tent on the outside, but inside it was quite intimate. The red carpet aisle was decorated with silver poles by the side with jewels. As you entered the venue, you saw the podium set for the couple, the side for the groom’s family and bride’s family. Guests were seated according to their relationship to the couple. The ushers wore yellow dresses with flared skirts and rocked chic hair buns. Celebs were on one section, friends another, his and her family in other sections. Our table had a huge white vase, with orchids cascading out of them. We also had sweetly scented candles on the table. Other tables had different designs e.g one table had a transparent glass with red apples in them and glowing lights. The cake was amazing! With various elements of the traditional wedding including coral beads, bling and plam wine incorporated. We totally love the miniature “Lola & Peter”. So cute! Beautiful Bride Getting Ready For all the scoop on Lola’s bridal beauty look, click HERE At around quarter after 3, Gbenga Adeyinka the MC introduced himself. Then the alaga came to the podium. The traditional engagement was performed according to Yoruba custom. The groom’s family presented a loving proposal letter stating that their son wants to marry the bride to be. Peter’s twin brother and P-Square partner, Paul Okoye was smiling from ear to ear and led the procession of the groomsmen, along with Emmanuel Adebayor and of course, the groom Peter. The bride’s family accepted, then the groom and his friends came in, paid a token to the alaga and prostrated to the bride’s parents as a sign of respect. The alaga made them prostrate to the bride’s family 3 times , to represent the Holy Trinity – God the father, God the son (Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit, before they were prayed for by both families. Such a lovely moment as Lola & Peter’s son Cameron Okoye participated in the festivities. Bride’s Entrance – The beautiful bride arrives! The wedding planners – Perfect Coordinators then called on Lola as her groom had performed all the proper rites. The bride’s closest friends all dressed in shimmering gold and navy blue aso ebi danced in and ushered the bride in. The First Kiss! After the couple cut their elaborate and beautiful cake, the reception now officially begun. Gbenga Adeyinka made jokes that P-Square keeps singing “e no easy, e no easy, yet they buy expensive cars, drive the cool rides and make lots of money, yet e no easy, make e no easy for all of us then” Lol. He was cracking many jokes, “How Naija girls like to shorten their names, I am Elizabeth but people call me Liz for short, I am Rashidat but people call me Rash for short”. (Really tho? LOL) While the band entertained the guests, the couple changed into their Igbo ensemble, with the bride pretty in pink blouse, emerald and pink wrapper, and ichafu. She was holding a stunning jeweled fan, while her groom donned a red felt cap, signifying chieftaincy and coral beads. Twins in the venue were invited to come sit with the couple, aww. These included gospel singer KSB – Kenny Saint Best. This part was really cool! Gbenga Adeyinka asked Peter how much they were paid 15 years ago for performances, while talking about their success story. Peter said 7,500 Naira. So Gbenga gave him 8k to perform for everyone. Lol Peter took off his hat and stepped to P-Square songs. He even did a back flip right there on stage. As in, see flex, see happiness! Later he invited his crew and they gave a special “Personally” performance just like the video. Pregnant Kaffy also got on stage and danced. She really went down. She danced like cray-cray with that bump. Go girl! Lovely bride Lola then changed into an emerald green lace dress, while Peter put his red cap back on after that rousing performance. There were more performances including the groom Peter singing some of P-Square’s love songs to his inspiration – the beautiful bride. Aww! Flavour sang Ada Ada. Instead of Ada Ada he was saying “Lola Lola”. Literally all the ladies at the event went crazy when he came on stage. Lola danced with Peter twirling in her dress. J Martins performed, Tiwa Savage – Eminado without Don. Before performing she said “Wow, I am so glad for you two. You are really making me scared for mine next week”, Banky W – Yes/No, Iyanya – Your waist, Kukere, Sexy Mama, Phyno – Ghost Mode, K-cee – Limpopo and Okoso, Lynxxx – Fine Lady and many more. Then the couple went around greeting everyone who was there to share this very special Sunday with them. BellaNaija Weddings had a fun time with the couple and we’re so grateful to everyone involved including Bayo Adetu (PR for P-Square), Perfect Coordinators, BM|Pro, Damilare Aiki for BN & AkinTayoTimi. In Photos: How Osu celebrated ‘Dade Tutswaa’
On Saturday, August 5, the town of Osu was alive with the vibrant sights and sounds of a special event. This festival, known as the Dade Tutswaa, took place over two exciting days. It’s a meaningful celebration that happens just before the famous Homowo festival in Osu. The Dade Tutswaa Festival is a way for the people of Osu to come together, show their pride, and honor their ancestors. It’s a special time that brings the community closer and sets the stage for the even bigger Homowo celebration.
Background
The Dade Y3l3yeli Shifoo and Asafo Tutswaa, affectionately known as Dade Tutswaa, stands as a vibrant annual festival that resonates deeply within the heart of Osu, one of the seven traditional Ga-Dangme paramountcies in Ghana. This captivating festival is a tribute to both the military prowess of the Osu people and their ancestral deity, Dade, revered for its historical role in ancient warfare.
At its core, the Dade Tutswaa Festival serves as a unifying force, bringing together all four divisions of Osu: Kinkanwe, Ashinte, Alata, and Anorhor Guided by the Kinkanwe Asafo, the festival’s grand procession travels through each division, then final ending at Kinkanwe. This captivating journey meanders through the heart of Osu, paying homage to traditional homes and sites of significant historical importance.
As the procession weaves through the community, the revered flags of Kinkanwe: Antoa and Akonfode lead the way, accompanied by the Asafoiats3m3i (the Asafo captains), traditional leaders and community members. The procession goes into the Osu Castle, which has various traditional elements within that predate the building of the castle. It also visits ancient homes throughout the traditional area of the township. In every division that the procession arrives, the leading men and women offer drinks to the procession, the diety, and the Asafo.
Central to the festival are the captivating displays of musketry and traditional dances, symbolic of the revered Asafo culture of Osu. These dances, uniquely Osu’s, are a testament to the community’s cultural distinctiveness. The traditional colors of the celebration are red and white. On Saturday, the dominant color is red with a touch of white, and on Sunday, the dominant color is white with a touch of red.
Prior to the grand Saturday procession, the Asafo Company sends forth drinks as messengers of celebration to the leading traditional homes. This not only announces the festival’s arrival but also invites these homes to prepare for the Asafo warriors and the revered deity’s visitation. The lead figures of the festival, led by the Nii Shippi Nkpa (the battlefield commander), Dzaase Asafoats3 Nii Tempong Sarpei III (senior captain), alongside Asafoats3 Brenya under the Antoa flag, and Asafoats3 Dzahene under the Akomfode flag, ensure the festival’s seamless celebration.
Setting the stage
With the successful celebration, the commemoration and a testament to its unifying prowess. The festival has not only honored the valiant warriors of yesteryears but has also reinforced the bond that ties the community together. Through its captivating displays, vibrant colors, and deep-rooted traditions, Dade Tutswaa stands as a timeless testament to the resilience and cultural richness of Osu and sets the stage for this year’s Homowo scheduled to take place a few weeks from now.
