Black Sherif wins big at Ghana Music Awards UK

The sixth Ghana Music Awards UK edition’s “Artist of the year” award went to young Ghanaian musician Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, better known by his stage name, Black Sherif.

Black Sherif was nominated for Hiplife/Hip Hop artiste of the year, Hiplife/Hip Hop song of the year, Best Collaboration of the year, New Artiste of the year, Most Popular artiste of the year and Artiste of the year.

The awards ceremony was held at London’s Royal Regency Palace Manor Park on Saturday, October 29.

After facing competition from eight award-winning Ghanaian performers, including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, King Promise, Akwaboah, Kuami Eugene, Diana Hamilton, Celestine Donkor, and KiDi, Black Sherif was named the winner.

With his most recent album, The Vallain I Never Was,” Black Sherif, whose three-year journey to prominence in the music industry has been pretty impressive, has captured the attention of many listeners all around the world.

This record helped him win artist of the year at the Ghana Music Awards UK edition.

Black Sherif first gained attention when he released the song “First Sermon, then included Burna Boy, a superstar in Nigeria, in a remix of the song Second Sermon, which has received millions of streams across all streaming services.

He participated in the same division against King Promise (Ghana), Akwaboah (Ghana), Celestine Donkor (Ghana), Denny (UK), Diana Hamilton (Ghana), DJ Martin (UK), Dosty (UK), JVS (UK), Kidi (Ghana), Kuami Eugene (Ghana), Mista Silver (UK) and Sarkodie (Ghana).

Various artistes from both countries received honours in 27 categories, including Group of the Year, Record of the Year, Male and Female Vocalists of the Year, and International Collaboration of the Year.

Black Sherif also received honours for Best New Artiste and Best Highlife/Hip Hop Song of the Year in addition to the Artiste of the Year award.
