Black'o opens the maiden Just Music series at Rockstone's Lounge
Season 1 of the Just Music series is set to be launched at Rockstone’s Lounge on Tuesday, 26th June 2018. Presented by Accra Unplugged, the originators of the 2016 Flow series, this event will similarly capture the attention of creatives as well as live music aficionados between the hours of 6&9pm every Tuesday evening. In typical fashion, Accra Unplugged will set out to ensure that guests enjoy a musical haven situated in a buzzing indoor lounge ambience during the stipulated period. The upcoming Tuesday’s maiden edition features an Accra-based Nigerian artiste by the name Black’o. On his 19th birthday, Black’o made a decision to drop out of University in early 2016 in order to fully pursue music. In April of that same year, he packed up his bags and hit the road in a bid to kickstart his music career in Ghana, where he re-established contact with CEO of One Nation Entertainment, James Paa Kwesi Davis. Born in Lagos city, Black’o was raised in a good home where education and discipline were prioritized as a way out of the dysfunctional inner-city surroundings. He reckons he luckily survived the trappings of the numerous social vices next door that revolved around drugs, prostitution, robberies, murders and kidnappings. In the process, Black’o developed a fearlessness and unshakable determination to only move up in life. The musical soundscape he projects draws from his depth of experiences and musical influences combined with the sounds he stumbled on in a variety of spaces – local public transportation, radio, neighbourhood bars, the markets, street fights etc. All these have providedBlack’o with the building blocks of what he calls “Afro-Kombo”, a fusion of African sonic vibrations infused with western elements that shaped his transition from boyhood to adulthood. The genres of R&B, Trap, Afrobeat, Soul, and Native Yoruba vibes are all in “dier”. Black’o believes that with or without commercial success, his music must be delivered to the “true owners” for who this new genre is created, especially those in the ghettos who have overpaid their dues and still enjoy no benefits of being alive or considered human. In his words, “They too deserve to shine at least sometimes”.]]>
