Caring Volunteers Network (CAVNET) Executive Director, Mr. Adil Issah has donated 3000 reading materials worth GH¢10,000 with the support of African Library Project to two schools in the Wa Municipal and Wa West District Assemblies as part of the organisation’s core mandate of promoting education.
CAVNET is a local Non-Government Organisation (NGO) established three years ago operating in the Upper West Region of Ghana to bring help, good health and development to our society, especially the poor and needy in rural areas. The organisation also identifies needy but brilliant students and assists them in their educational pursuit because it believes in education and promotion of good healthy lifestyle among people. Its core mandate is to fight and alleviate poverty through a people-centred approach.
According to the Executive Director in a speech during a brief ceremony, he said that it was in a bid to promote and improve the reading skills of students to enable them pass their exams with flying colours and further entreated head teachers to allow students to access the books. He added that “Our organization is worried about a research conducted that revealed that most students fail because they cannot read and understand questions during exams so the need to complement the efforts of Ghana Education Service.”
Mr. Gunikuu V. Bernard and Madam Azara Salifu, head teacher and teacher of Guo D/A JHS and Wa Model Primary and JHS in the Wa West District and Wa Municipal Assemblies respectively thanked the Executive Director and the NGO and gave the assurance that they will make sure that students make good use the reading materials to improve their reading skills.
