Celine Dion criticizes Trump campaign for unauthorized use of her iconic song ‘My Heart Will Go On’
On Saturday, August 10, 2024, renowned Canadian singer, Celine Dion released a statement that condemned former President Donald Trump’s campaign for the “unauthorized” use of her music during a recent rally, while also making light of the song selection.
The crooner’s iconic track “My Heart Will Go On” has been featured at several Trump campaign rallies throughout 2023 and 2024. However, her statement indicated that she and her management team had only recently discovered its usage, particularly noting its performance at Trump’s rally in Bozeman, Montana, on Friday, August 9.
”Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana,” Dion said in a statement posted to her X and Instagram accounts.

The acclaimed ballad from 1997 served as the theme song for the groundbreaking film “Titanic,” featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and focused on a romantic narrative set against the backdrop of the Titanic’s tragic sinking.
Dion and her team expressing their disapproval of the Trump presidential campaign is not an isolated incident; musicians have previously voiced their objections to the former president’s use of their music. In 2016, as reported by the media, The Rolling Stones issued a comparable statement after their iconic song “Start Me Up” was played at a rally during Trump’s initial presidential campaign.
