Colombia 2024: Black Princesses set for World Cup opener against Austria on Monday, September 2
The Black Princesses of Ghana are set to begin their World Cup journey on Monday, September 2, 2024, with a highly anticipated match against Austria at the El Techo Stadium in Bogotá, Colombia.
The game will kick off at exactly 5 p.m. local time.
Coach Yussif Basig has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, assuring fans that the Princesses are well-prepared to perform at the highest level.
“The girls are ready because this is what they have been waiting for, and the time has come. The technical staff is enthusiastic, and the players are looking up to us,” Coach Basig stated.
The team’s preparation included two international friendly matches, which have been crucial in building their confidence and readiness.
“The friendly internationals have helped them a lot. They have gotten a feel for the competition as these teams are also contenders,” said Coach Basig.
He highlighted the benefit of their recent match against Nigeria in Cape Coast, which had a massive crowd, helping the players overcome any stage fright.
Coach Basig is particularly motivated, as this is his second time leading the team in such a significant tournament. He spoke about the tactical preparations in place for the game against Austria.
“We have our tactical ploy that we are going to map out against them. It’s so amazing. We need the prayers and support of Ghanaians,” he mentioned.
Expressing gratitude for the unwavering support, Coach Basig added that the Ghanaian government and the Football Association have been instrumental in supporting the team from the outset of their campaign.
“The government and the FA have really supported us right from day one. They are here with their representatives to attend to any difficulties or challenges we may face,” Coach Basig noted.
