Commercial transport fares to go up by 30% effective Monday, Jan 22
Commuters in Ghana will face a significant financial hit as commercial transport fares are set to surge by a staggering 30% beginning Monday, January 22, 2024.
This announcement, made by transportation authorities, has sparked concerns and debates among citizens who are already grappling with the economic challenges of the present times.
However, the Commercial Transport Operators of Ghana, in a press release, disclosed that the increase is a result of a “substantial rise in the costs of lubricants and spare parts, coupled with increment on DVLA service charges” which it indicated is having a significant impact on the livelihoods of its members.
The operators also lamented the high cost of maintenance and repairs.

“The proposal for a fare increase aims to address the drivers’ financial challenges and ensure the sustainability of the public transportation industry in Ghana,” the commercial transport operators added in the press release.
Acknowledging the detrimental impacts of these challenges, the Transport Operators Association revealed that they have conducted comprehensive consultations with various stakeholders, including relevant state agencies and other transport associations.
