With the nominees now out for the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards, the channel has also revealed the judges who were involved in this year’s nominees’ selection process.  The panel consisted of renowned African radio and club DJs, who not only play the music, but also have insight into who the public loves.

“Whether they interview them or play their music in clubs, DJ’s are the perfect blend of musical knowledge and popular culture, “ said Channel O Africa manager, Lee Kasumba. “Our aim is to ensure that the channel is fully representative of the African continent, so it was very exciting for us to have these DJ’s involved in the selection process for this year’s nominees,” said Ms Kasumba.

Here’s is a peak at the judges:

DJ Black: He is known as one of the hardest working DJ’s in Africa. He is a member of international,DJ’s  movement and founder of Blaqbone Media. Black has also hosted shows for some famous international outfits like Akon, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Fabolous and Shaggy. He was also a judge for the Metro FM Awards (SA), guest DJ at YFM (SA) and a guest DJ for Big Brother Amplified.

G Money: He began working in Kenya in 2007 at Nairobi’s HomeBoyz Radio 91.5FM where he hosts the Breakfast Show, G Money in the Morning. His current projects include the Homeboyz Radio School, which he established and has run since January 2009. He also helped launch Africa’s first 100% dedicated Dancehall radio station, Uptown 91.1FM. He owns a marketing solutions company and a production company which has worked with some big-name UK artists.

Toolz: Tolu Oniru, aka ‘Toolz’ is a vivacious, award-winning on-air personality who currently hosts her own radio show ‘The Midday Show with Toolz’ on one of Nigeria’s popular radio stations – The Beat 99.9FM. In 2010 she won a Radio Presenter of the Year award at the Nigerian Broadcasters Awards, Radio Personality of the Year at the Dynamix All Youth Awards and she came sixth on Studio 53 Extra’s Top Radio Presenters in Africa list. She has been nominated for various other awards.

Reuben: Reuben Obare Ndege is also a big name in Tanzania’s music industry. He hosts and produces SO SO FRESH on Clouds FM, which showcases all the freshest music and trends.  Reuben is also the host with the most as he has hosted gigs and parties for artists like Eve and Fat Joe as well as the Tanzania Music Awards.

 Bryan McKenzie: He has carved his name in the Ugandan radio scene after starting in the sales department of Power FM in 2005. He works on HOT 100FM, where he is holding it down as a presenter and music director. He is the vice president of Platinum Entertainment and features on Jam Agenda and Showtime Magazine. His hard work has certainly paid off over the years as he has been recognised with numerous awards including the Best Radio Presenter at the Buzz Teeniez Awards and nominated for Best TV Personality Award at the same awards.

 DJ Caise: He has been described as one of the most exciting and innovative young Nigerian entertainers to ever grace the turntables. He has performed at the most prestigious nightclubs and entertained a variety of audiences from around the world. His unique and inventive style has enabled him to perform alongside several of the music industry’s leading artists. Caise is also a top resident DJ at The Beat 99.9FM in Lagos.

DBlack appreciates the mother of his children with a Range Rover gift

Ghanaian rapper and businessman, Dblack has gifted the mother of his children, a brand new Range Rover.

The presentation was done at a get together to celebrate his 35th birthday on January 13th.

According to Dblack, his baby mama had been a “real one”, hence, his gesture.

“Gifted the mother of my kids a new Range Rover on my birthday. Always gotta appreciate the real ones. The smiles on my kids faces did it for me. Let’s appreciate the good ones. God bless us all,” he captioned a video of the presentation.

Meanwhile, the Black Avenue Musik boss also gifted himself a brand new Mercedes S 550 to mark his new age.
