5Skillions Records’ new signing,  singer  Edi Young has been bubbling under for some time now and is set to hit the airwaves in style with a new music video  and his single, ‘You Are’. The smooth R&B single in his native tongue and English is expected to hit the web for free downloading on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

His name maybe Edi Young, but he is a grown man at heart.  The proof is in the passion that he evokes when he digs into his soul to croon his thoughts with emotion.  He hails from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria but grew up in Lagos and he is currently studying accounting at the Valley View University in Ghana.

Born Edidiong Otu Okon, Edi harnessed his skill back in high school. His other love was break dancing but he later gave it up to fully pursue music.  His initial foray into music came in the choir of the Zion Church in Lagos. He played backup singer then, shying away from lead vocals. His musical career became official several miles from home when he moved to Ghana to attend the Valley View University. There, he hooked up with Adewumi Seun (Seans Baba), CEO of Seans Records and artistes Chi Boy (Dat Igbo Boi) and Balo Flash (Omo Fi.di.ty). After years of hiding his musical intent from his parents, Edi finally came clean to his mother who gave him her blessings, on condition that he took his education seriously.

Four years of pursuing music as a career stood for nothing despite coming into contact with industry heavyweights without getting the financial backing he needed. Luck smiled on him when he met Jayso in 2010. The two got around to making magic on his debut album, “Young Bobby”.  Edi draws inspiration from a wide array of sources. Primarily, he looks to God first. Musicians such as R Kelly, Ray Charles, Sisqo, 50 Cents, Bob Marley and anybody else who ever sang inspires him. When there is nothing to do, Edi likes to kick his feet and dream big because he believes dreams come true.
