Egypt crashes out of Qatar 2022

The Pharaohs of Egypt will not be making a showing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The seven-times champions of Africa crashed out from what has been termed as a replay of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Again, a penalty shootout was needed to separate the two sides. Boulaye Dia scored in the fourth minute as Senegal won the second leg 1-0 for a 1-1 aggregate draw at the new Diamniadio Olympic Stadium.

Sadio Mane then delivered the winning spot kick as Senegal edged Egypt 3-1 on penalties at the end of a tempestuous second leg in Dakar.
