Emtee on balancing fatherhood with music

Surprisingly, my sons, both my sons, every time I bring them to the studio, they sort of get excited and they appreciate being there, you know? So they love the environment. When they see the equipment, they get excited, as if they know what the equipment is. They just get to touching and wanting to know what goes on, you know? So my kids are very much in tune with what I do.

Emtee on the message behind “Long Way”

Basically, the message behind the song [Long Way] is just to say it’s cool to be vulnerable and to love and to make certain mistakes. It’s just as long as you can rectify them, especially when it comes to love because, especially from where we’re from, love is hardly expressed. People also don’t want to tap into the downfalls of love and come to realize that we all human and we make mistakes, and loving is not a bad thing.

Emtee on who he’d like to collaborate with

Definitely people like Tekno, Sarkodie, Mr Eazi, the list goes on and on. I have so much favorites all over Africa, places like Zim, Botswana. I’m looking forward to working with the likes of Buffalo Souljah whose from Zim. So yeah, everybody really.

Sylvester Chauke’s proverb

My proverb is actually a Tsonga proverb, South Africa, that’s based in Limpopo up in the Northern part of South Africa. And it’s a Tsonga proverb and it goes, [speaks Tsonga]. Which means “Two rats cannot dig the same hole.” And you can look at that in so many different ways. You have to follow your own path. You can’t follow someone else’s path. You got to do you and do the best you and be accountable to your decisions and to your life. And that’s why I love it so much.
