Fancy hats & fascinators… Ghanaian stars and influencers celebrate ‘Africa Rising' at the Glam Africa Breakfast Party
The Africa Rising Breakfast Party was a constellation of Ghana’s black stars. On 28 July, Glam Africa Magazine hosted an intimate gathering with celebrities, industry leaders and influencers at Villa Monticello Hotel for the Africa Rising Breakfast Party. The event was held to launch their newest magazine edition coined “Africa Rising” which celebrates individuals who are single-handedly shaping Africa’s narrative.
The event kicked off with a cocktail hour, sponsored by Moet & Chandon, where guests enjoyed bottomless mimosas. The breakfast started with an introduction by PR Representative, Lakeshia Marie, who hosted the conversation on how the attendees are currently changing the narratives of Africa. CEO of Skin Gourmet, a natural skin care line sourced and made in Ghana, Violet Awo Amoabeng spear headed the conversation about her holistic approach to creating beauty products.

Afua Osei of She Leads Africa shared how her platform offers resources and empowers over 500 thousand African women entrepreneurs to succeed in business. The conversation also highlighted tech pioneers of Mazumma, a mobile payment company, who built Ghana’s first cryptocurrency using artificial intelligence and blockchain. The group was recently listed as part of the 2018 Forbes Africa 30 under 30cohort. Singer and activists Deborah Vanessa charged the audience to rethink using plastic as she talked about her #BanPlasticghcampaign. Along with practical measures, she is using music and artto spread the message of creating a cleaner Ghana.

Other guests and celebrities in attendance included Will Smith’s Chef, Cynthia Chea Pean, recording artists Amaarae, actress Zynell Zuh, international model Victoria Michaels, actress Salma Mumin and more. Glam Africa Magazine debuted the Glam Africa Beauty Box, a free box of beauty products that comes with a yearly subscription to the magazine. It is the first of it’s kind in Ghana and includes products from Kaeme, Colorbox Cosmeticsand Skin Gourmetto name a few. When asked about the motivation for the beauty box, Chioma Onwutalobi, CEO of Glam Africa Magazine shared, “I always want GLAM AFRICA readers to have a value added experience and its high time we start promoting brands that come from Africa and/or cater to us.
