Fashion Focus: MO SAÏQUE and JOANSU come to Ghana



MO SAÏQUE and JOANSU which have received global attention to Ghana. They will officially launch their Spring/Summer 2012 collections in Accra on June 9, re-defining fashion with their respective luxury brands and celebrating their Ghanaian heritage as the fashion world gradually turns to Africa for inspiration. The launch will showcase a unique installation of MO SAÏQUE shoes and JOANSU jewellery. MO SAÏQUE is a high-end shoe brand, launched by former banker, Afua Dabanka in 2011. Each shoe has the AYA fern (a Ghanaian Adinkra symbol) on the sole to represent her brand ethos that all the special women who wear MO SAÏQUE should remember their endurance, perseverance and resourcefulness.

Her sophisticated, classic designs are hand crafted in Italy and focus on rich colour palettes and the finest quality leathers. Of Ghanaian parentage, born in Germany and currently residing in London, Dabanka turned her shoe obsession into a viable business by studying footwear at the London College of Fashion. She has already garnered press attention from the likes of and Huffington Post thanks to styles ranging from flat pumps to vertiginous heels.

JOANSU was founded by banking industry lawyer Adjoa Acquah in 2011. Adjoa’s designs are inspired by her travels across Africa, coupled with the authentic outer beauty and inner strength of the African Woman. Produced in ateliers in London and Paris; Joansu’s limited edition statement pieces are made from precious stones and metals as well as African print and resin. She has shown her work as part of the Afropolitan evening at the Victoria & Albert museum, London and is one of the key designers stocked on African luxury e-tailer; ‘Le Tabouret D’Or and in the luxury boutique Neuner Schmuck-atelier in Vienna Austria.
