Once again, the 60-artist cohort delivers a timely and emotional anthem. It begins with a recollection from an old-timer, “So I went to Cali and every time I showed my ID, they asked me, ‘Isn’t that where Black Wall Street was?’ No, that’s where it is, and it’s still thriving.”
On the track, piano sets the tone underneath a passage of spoken word before the R&B-style vocals swoon, “North Tulsa Got Something to Say.” Airtight rhymes follow over the steady beat as the MCs paint a picture of an impactful, inspirational, and important black city like no other. The visual threads together live footage and documentary vignettes of the town, unfolding as an evocative tapestry in its own right.
Additionally, Fire In Little Africa unveil their 2021 self-titled album, Fire In Little Africa, on vinyl for the first time this Friday April 22. Be sure to pick it up in stores or online—HERE.
Upon release last year, Complex touted the project, and NPR raved, “the album is more than a creative project; it’s a roadmap to the future and catalyst for change.” It has also notably amassed hundreds of thousands of streams so far.
The album serves an homage to the victims of the Tulsa Race Massacre on its 100th anniversary. It ultimately reflects the community’s ability to bounce back though. In March 2020, the collective recorded Fire In Little Africa in just five days in studios across the Greenwood neighborhood.
It’s time to visit Black Wall Street.
Welcome to North Tulsa.
