Ghana Inter-schools Festival: Identifying talents and nurturing young talents through sports

The tenth edition of the Ghana Inter-schools Festival which purpose is to identify talents in various sports disciplines among basic school children in the country took place over the weekend at the Elwak Stadium. The event which is organized AANEL a registered NGO in Ghana whose mission is to provide recreation through sports and entertainment for school children in Ghana saw attendance from over 2,000 people made up of proprietors, teachers, and students from 30 competition schools.

In the spirit of the ongoing AFCON, some basic schools in Ayawaso East and West came out to participate in football, rap, and dance competitions.

Participating schools included: Maranatha Prep, Amoraf Science & Technology Sch, EP Bethel school, Sunnyside int. Sch, Antah Academy, St Thomas Prep. Sch, Thilda Nem. Sch, Grace dew Int. Sch, Mrs. Edu Sam’s New Nation Sch, Queens Royal Sch, Future Leaders Int Sch, Greater Care Int Sch, Victorious Academy, New Town Elementary, Joy mission int. Sch, Delight Int. Sch, William Wilberforce Int Sch among others.

The organizer of the event, Aisha on why her NGO took up this initiative and an interest in sports said:

“We realized that with Extra curriculum activities. Students are more interested in the game of football. There are some children who skip school to find a pitch or group to play. To keep them in schools we educated them on the need to stay in school and join the school’s football team. With this in mind, we encouraged them that the should constantly train and we will organize events ever quarter of the year for them to exhibit their talents.”
