Gisela needs Love and kindness at this point; not criticisms – Regina Van-Helvert
Award-winning Ghanaian actress and Media personality, Regina Van-Helvert has publicly defended Snapchat influencer Gisela Amponsah, following Gisela’s revelation of a strained relationship with her biological father.
It will be recalled that during the first episode of the podcast “Rants, Bants and Confession,” which aired on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Gisela expressed her deep-seated resentment towards her father, labeling him a “demon” and revealing that he failed to demonstrate affection and consistently neglected her.
In the words of the former Miss Malaika contestant, ““I don’t even want to talk about that man because I don’t want to give him the clout. I have never rated him. I’m very disrespectful towards my dad, and I am not even going to shy away from it.
“I respect and love my mom so much, but for my dad, I don’t even think he exists. I don’t like talking about him because he is a demon. When I say men are trash, it starts from him,” – she stated without mincing words.
Gisela then went ahead to state how her father has hated her since childhood, adding that their bitter relationship did not start today.
“I feel like all my trust issues and not knowing my worth at some point in life all come from that man. How can I have a father, an actual dad, and I try to talk to him and he tells me not to talk to him?” She added.
In the aftermath of the revelation, the well-known Snapchat influencer faced backlash from Netizens, including several celebrities, who believed that her statements were inappropriate.
However, in a candid interview on 3FM Lounge on Friday, August 9, Van-Helvert expressed the view that the backlash directed at the influencer is unwarranted, emphasizing that the primary concern should be the issue of her father’s neglect.
While the renowned television personality recognized that Gisela may have shown disrespect towards her father, she argued that the criticisms aimed at her were inappropriate, considering that Gisela Amponsah has faced numerous challenges in her life stemming from her father’s absence. She advocated for the young influencer to receive support, compassion, and understanding rather than criticism.
“Are people watching this thing to understand it from her point of view? When I heard her speak although there was a bit of disrespect there but I was also hearing a cry for help.
“For someone who has dealt with daddy issues from her childhood and her father who was supposed to be the primary care giver and provide her basic needs was not there for her and now she has tried and achieved something for herself and she is expecting her dad to at least show some appreciation and support but he still goes down to downplay her efforts and doesn’t care and she is sharing her experience and the first thing we think about it respect?”she said.
Regina further added, “We are not thinking about what this lady has dealt with…have we thought about what she had to dealt with? The people who have had to take advantage of her because of the absence of her dad in her life, what she’s had to give up on, the sacrifices she’s had to make when she did not have to if her father was present, we don’t know all of that.
“I think at this point she needs kindness, love and grace. That’s what she needs.”
