CONFECTIONS X COLLECTIONS: AFRICAN FASHION MEETS AFTERNOON TEA AT MOUNT NELSON, CAPE TOWN

This November, Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town will host CONFECTIONS X COLLECTIONS (CxC): an annual coming-together of creative expression fusing five days of exclusive salon-style fashion shows, with designer-inspired confectionery. During this much-anticipated event, the iconic pink hotel will showcase an all-star cast of leading fashion designers from Southern and Western Africa – shining the spotlight on slow, considered African fashion.
Taking place from 8 – 12 November 2023, the property will host two daily fashion shows per designer, at 11:00 and 15:00. This year’s trailblazing lineup includes two Capetonians: the “Prince of Prints” Chu Suwannapha of Chulaap, as well as returning talent and internationally acclaimed winner of the 2020 LVMH Prize, Sindiso Khumalo. Joining them is Nigerian-based Bubu Ogisi of IAMISIGO, dedicated to preserving the ancestral textile techniques of her heritage; Adeju Thompson, founder of Lagos Space Programme; and Johannesburg-based Mantsho by Palesa Mokubung, whose bold, print-centric garments are rooted in African indigenous culture.
Mount Nelson’s pastry chef Vicky Gurovich will collaborate with each designer to create bespoke creations of their imagining for the limited-edition menu – completely invigorating the hotel’s institutional Afternoon Tea. To curate this celebration of creativity, culture and cake, Mount Nelson partnered with Twyg, an independent magazine operating at the intersection of fashion and sustainability. “Being involved in CXC from its inception has been such a privilege,” says Jackie May, Founder and Editor of Twyg. “This year, we’re excited to be showcasing homegrown talent, as well as two West African slow-fashion designers. For the second year running, we are highlighting the work of those who are championing a culture of care, honouring their artisans, and celebrating African fashion.”
“Set in the vibrant heart of Cape Town, it’s only fitting that we should shine a spotlight on the city’s buoyant creative spirit, from the arts and fashion to culinary delights. Championing Africa’s leading fashion designers is just one of the ways in which we’re doing this.” says General Manager Tiago Moraes Sarmento. In celebration of its 125 years in 2024, ‘The Nellie’ will continue to make its mark as the beating, cultural heart of Cape Town with an annual programme of celebratory touchpoints, across the arts, design, gastronomy, and fashion, to launch next year.

TikTok has emerged as a powerhouse, captivating millions of users and influencers alike. With its rapid growth, TikTok has evolved from a creative space to a lucrative avenue for content creators. Many aspiring influencers are eager to understand the financial opportunities it offers, and that’s where the TikTok Money Calculator comes into play.
The Rise of TikTok Earnings
Before delving into the nitty-gritty of the TikTok Money Calculator, let’s explore the fascinating dynamics of TikTok influencer earnings. A recent study titled “Understanding the Economics of TikTok Influencers” has shed light on the financial landscape of this platform. This research suggests that TikTok is not just a playground for creative expression but also a source of substantial income for influencers.
The study reveals that TikTok influencers are reaping significant financial rewards, and the earnings are not limited to the big names with millions of followers. Even micro-influencers, with a relatively modest follower count, can generate substantial income through brand partnerships, sponsored content, and various monetization strategies.
The TikTok Money Calculator: Unveiling Your Earning Potential
Now, let’s dive into the TikTok Money Calculator, a valuable tool for influencers seeking to estimate their potential earnings on the platform. Understanding how this calculator works can empower you to make informed decisions about your TikTok content strategy and partnerships.
The TikTok Money Calculator is a web-based tool that takes into account various factors to estimate an influencer’s potential earnings. These factors include:
Follower Count: The number of followers you have on TikTok plays a pivotal role in determining your earning potential. Generally, the larger your follower base, the higher your earning potential. Brands often pay more to reach a larger audience.
Engagement Rate: It’s not just about the quantity; quality matters too. The TikTok Money Calculator considers your engagement rate, which includes likes, comments, and shares. Higher engagement indicates a more active and loyal audience, which can translate into higher earnings.
Niche: Your content niche matters. Different niches attract different types of brands, and some niches are more lucrative than others. For instance, fashion and beauty influencers tend to have more opportunities for brand collaborations compared to other niches.
Geographic Location: Your location can also impact your earning potential. Brands often have different budgets for influencers in various regions. Influencers in major cities or regions with a thriving advertising industry may command higher rates.
Frequency of Posting: How often you post on TikTok can affect your earnings. Consistent posting can keep your audience engaged and attract more brand partnerships.
Average Views per Video: The TikTok Money Calculator considers the average number of views your videos receive. Viral videos or consistently high view counts can attract brands willing to pay a premium for exposure.
Sponsored Content: If you frequently collaborate with brands and create sponsored content, this can significantly boost your earnings. Sponsored posts typically come with a set payment or fee negotiated with the brand.
Growth Potential: The TikTok Money Calculator also looks at your potential for growth. If your follower count is steadily increasing, you may attract more brands interested in long-term partnerships.
Using these factors, the TikTok Money Calculator provides an estimate of your potential earnings. It’s important to note that this estimate is just a guideline and may not reflect the exact amount you’ll earn. Actual earnings can vary based on individual negotiations with brands and market fluctuations.
Maximizing Your TikTok Earnings
Now that you have a better understanding of the TikTok Money Calculator and the factors it considers, here are some strategies to maximize your earnings as a TikTok influencer:
Focus on Your Niche: Identify and focus on a niche that aligns with your interests and expertise. Creating content in a niche you’re passionate about will not only help you attract a dedicated following but also make you more appealing to brands in that space.
Engage Your Audience: Building a loyal and engaged audience is crucial. Interact with your followers through comments and messages, and consider running interactive campaigns to keep them engaged.
Collaborate with Brands: Seek out brand partnerships that align with your content and values. Make sure to negotiate fair compensation for your work and ensure that the partnership is mutually beneficial.
Diversify Income Streams: Explore various monetization strategies beyond brand partnerships, such as selling merchandise, offering online courses or consulting, or leveraging affiliate marketing.
Stay Informed: Keep an eye on industry trends and changes in the TikTok algorithm. Staying informed will help you adapt your content strategy to remain relevant and appealing to both your audience and potential brand partners.
The TikTok Money Calculator is a valuable tool for influencers looking to understand and estimate their earning potential on the platform. While it provides useful insights, it’s essential to remember that influencer earnings can vary widely based on individual circumstances and negotiations with brands. To maximize your TikTok earnings, focus on creating engaging content, building a loyal following, and seeking out meaningful brand collaborations.
