music talibKweli 01Its official! US hip hop star, Talib Kweli will fly into Ghana during the country’s Independence Day celebrations to partake in the Asabaako Music Festival, 3-day party on the spectacular Busua Beach in the Western region.  The New York rapper will join Wanlov the Kubolor, Yaa Pono and many more Ghanaian artists for festival, sponsored by Vodafone.

Talib Kweli is often cited as one of the best rappers of all time by those at the top of the hip hop game, having collaborated with the likes of Kanye West, Black Eyed Peas and Mos Def, as the group “Black Star”. Rumours of his performance had spread across the internet, after the artist saw the festival website at www.asabaako.com and told his hundreds of thousands of followers on Twitter, the social network, of his desire to play in Ghana.

Talib’s performance will be his first in Ghana, and a special moment for the artist whose releases include “Africa Dream”. He says, “Africa is a place so close to my heart yet I never get to play there. The Asabaako festival is a chance for Ghanaians and Africans around the world to come together and celebrate one of the most important days of Independence on the continent. I can’t wait to put on a big show for my people in Ghana.”

The concert on Independence Day is the jewel in the crown of 3 days at the Busua Beach Resort, the Black Star Surf Shop and the African Rainbow Resort, where live bands and DJs will be playing day and night. Not to mention, a range of beach sports like soccer, volleyball and even surfing and kayaking. There are plenty of other activities in the area, from boat trips to jungle treks. Or, just relax by the beach and enjoy the vibe…

Accommodation in Busua is limited, so guests are advised to book or arrive early. Otherwise, there is more accommodation in the surrounding area and in Takoradi, from which additional taxis and tro-tros will be available. For a full list of accommodation, as well as travel info and all other festival details, visit www.facebook.com/asabaako or www.asabaako.com.
