I feel guilty and regret bleaching my skin – Obuoba J.A Adofo confesses

Obuoba J.A. Adofo may have enjoyed all the accolades and attention at the height of his career, but if there is anything the veteran Highlife artiste regrets most in his life, it is bleaching his skin.
According to J.A Adofo, he was pushed into the act through societal pressure
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, he said:
“You know at that time, bleaching and having permed, curly hair meant a lot to people who thought they had arrived. As a musician at my peak, I wanted to feel that sense of belonging so I bleached my skin.
“I thought that that way, people would know that I was a big man, but later I regretted my actions having learnt of the complications of bleaching and the consequences people suffered.
“Till date, I feel guilty for doing that and really wish I could change the hands of time,”
Adofo, affectionately known as Black Chinese, also revealed that apart from the medical consequences, he also endured the shame of being seen as not believing in his race.
“As a Highlife artiste promoting my culture through my songs, it was my responsibility to project my roots as a black person but unfortunately, I was swayed by what the masses were doing and I still regret it,” he added.
The man who blessed Ghanaians with great tunes such as Owuo Mpaso, Yaa Boatemaa, Ankwandobi, Kyerema, Odo Pa, Yebede Agoro, City Boys and Mukyea, recently received a generous donation from Lovers of Highlife Music.
