Ghanaian Rapper, Joey has said that even though “Tonga” spurred his career, he does not wish to be associated with just that style of music.

According to him, people and his fans should learn to appreciate his creativity.

Speaking to Jon Germain on The Zone on Friday, Joey B said:

‘Even though ‘tonga’ propelled me, that’s not how I started, I just feel like people should accept me just the way I am.

When asked by the host if he thinks his fans are stuck with “Tonga”, Joey replied with a Yes/No answer.

“Yes and no. Some people still feel that they miss the ‘tonga’ joey b. ‘Tonga’ is not a song where I planned that this is going to be Joey b for like the rest of his life. I just felt like I was just playing around and it was a hit. I need to be innovative, I have so much than ‘tonga’,” he said.

Joey B however added that even though his fans have accepted any style of music he drops, he thinks they should accept the “Rapping Joey” more.

“I think I got into a place where they just accept anything that Joey B brings, but I think that if they really want to laugh or have a laugh, I think it’s the rapping joey B because I always say some very terrible foolish stuff when I’m rapping. I can’t help it, it will definitely come,” he added.

Born Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin, Joey B’s music career started in
2009 when he was signed to Ghanaian producer/musician Jay So’s Skillions Records. He later went on to join D Black’s Black Avenue Musik in 2012 where he released some of his hit singles including “Strawberry Ginger”.
