I Moved Too Quickly; I Should’ve Been More Patient – Kurl Songx on early exit from Kaywa’s Label
Ghanaian singer and songwriter Kurl Songx, best known for his hit song “Jennifer Lomotey,” has opened up about the lessons he learned after leaving Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music label early in his career.
According to the artist, departing from the renowned label prematurely was a decision that impacted his career more than he initially anticipated.
Born Kelvin Agyekum, Kurl Songx acknowledged that while he believed he was ready to forge his own path, he underestimated the complexities of managing a music career independently. He realized that the support and structure provided by a label, especially one as reputable as Kaywa’s, are invaluable for an artist’s growth.
In an interview with Adom TV’s Maame Boatemaa, the crooner admitted that he was impatient and rushed into independence without fully understanding the challenges ahead.
“I realize now that I wasn’t patient enough. I should have taken my time. As a young artiste, I moved too quickly. Being independent isn’t as easy as it seems; you only understand the work involved when you step out on your own.
“It made me appreciate Kaywa (Papa) even more. It’s not easy for someone to lift you from nowhere. The least I could have done was to be grateful,” he admitted.
