I-Represent International Documentary/Film Festival opens in Lagos

irepThe highly acclaimed I-Represent International Documentary/Film Festival (iREP DOCU-FEST) which debuted in 2011 holds its second edition from March 22-25 at Terra Kulture  and the Freedom Park in Lagos, Nigeria. The festival, attracting about 20 international filmmakers from Europe and parts of Africa  formally opened at the Terra Kulture on Thursday morning with a keynote address by renowned anthropologist, and filmmaker, Prof Jean Paul Collyen, Director of the Institute Of African Arts, Paris. Veteran hiphop producer/entrepreneur, Elajoe, will be featured in one of the few selected films for viewing, which is a 94 minute film/documentary aptly titled, “Lagos: Notes of a City” directed by internationally renowned German director/film maker, Jens Wenkel. The festival is conceptualized on the framework: Africa in Self Conversation, and it would explore the theme: Democracy and Culture – The Documentary Film Intervention. A sub-theme of the film fest is tagged, Is Nollywood Documentary? According to the festival’s Executive Director, Femi Odugbemi, the sub-theme is to open new vistas of production opportunities to the Nigerian film maker. The festival will screen about 30 films in its four-day duration and stage workshops and training in Production, camera works scriptwriting among others.  It will also give the iREP HALL OF FAME Award to four eminent Nigerians who have contributed to the discipline of documentary filmmaking in the country.
