I thought about “Ghanapiano” first before DopeNation but didn’t see the vision- Quamina MP

Ghanaian musician, Quamina MP, has shared that he had the idea of introducing a new sound called ‘Ghanapiano’ before DopeNation publicly announced it.

Over the week, the award-winning music duo, DopeNation announced their new project while revealing a new sound they have named “Ghanapiano.”

“The reason why it’s Ghana is that we are taking old and new sounds from the Ghanaian culture musically and we merge it on the piano. If you listen to ‘Gboza’, you’ll hear these elements on the piano.; that’s why we churn the name, ‘Ghanapiano’,” DopeNation explained.

Speaking in an interview with with Andy Dosty on HitzFM, Quamina MP revealed that he was taken aback when he heard DopeNation’s announcement as he had the idea first but didn’t act on it because they didn’t see the vision.

“I was actually very surprised because I had that idea. Actually, it was my manager who mentioned that and I was like “Oh yeah, that makes sense”. Even four years ago, Twitch mentioned that to me, and for my style, he feels like we can fuse my style with the Amapiano, but we didn’t see the vision and how it was supposed to go,” he stated.

Reacting to claims that Ghanaian musicians have neglected the original Ghanaian sound for foreign ones, Quamina MP explained that there were still some musicians like Fameye who are fighting to stay connected to the Ghanaian sound.

“It looks like we are putting our sounds behind us, some of us are still fighting for the Ghanaian sound. Somebody like Fameye. So hopefully we are going to do what we can do to make sure our sound travels bigger,” he added.
