Ghanaian singer, King Promise has had a bitter sweet experience with the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), however, that has stopped him from participating in the awards show, despite advice from people to boycott.

According to the “Terminator” hitmaker, after failing to be duly recognized with a win at the awards ceremony for many years after several nominations, he was advised to boycott the event.

King Promise stated that although he respected the opinions of those who were urging him to boycott, he also had a mind of his own and could make his own decisions.

“Even with the VGMAs there were times where I had advice from people who were like “cancel them, don’t go again. People say a lot of things but it’s up to you to make what you think of it,” he told Berla Mundi on the “Day Show.”

Despite being the center of trolls every year when the VGMAs are held, King Promise never turned his back on the event; he showed up and gave his fans exceptional performances.

“I always went and still performed, even when I didn’t win, I go the next year to perform. It’s about the fans for me,” he added.

King Promise finally broke his “no win” jinx this year when he was crowned with the “Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste” and the “Album of the Year” awards at the 24th edition of the VGMAs.
