Today, Memphis artist, established entrepreneur, and Bread Gang Entertainment CEO, Moneybagg Yo unveils his highly anticipated heartfelt new mixtape Hard To Love. After setting off a firestorm of excitement and speculation when he announced its release date—and two years after his most recent full-length project—Bagg is back and more focused than ever. To accompany the release, today he also shares the imaginative video for “Where Ya Bih @.” In the visual directed by whipalo, Bagg pays great homage to the 2005 Oscar-winning film, “Hustle & Flow.” The parallels between Bagg the main character are uncanny as the iconic movie follows the dramatic life of a hustler turned rapper named DJay (originally played by Terrence Howard), who’s also a native Memphian. Like Bagg, Djay’s an overachiever with a stop-at-nothing approach and a crystal-clear vision for his success, and in the video Bagg seamlessly taps into that role as he playfully paints the picture of his comparable drive and passion. The captivating video is set to release today.

The mixtape, Bagg’s first since 2021’s A Gangsta’s Pain, was preceded by a lengthy letter posted to his Instagram account. “I gained and lost more than I ever thought I would,” Bagg wrote, “and had no other safe outlet for all the emotions and dark thoughts that came wit that other than making music.” That sort of to-the-bone honesty is the defining feature of Hard To Love. The Certified Speaker shared various singles including “Quickie,” “Motion God,” “On Wat U On,” his acclaimed collaboration with label mate, GloRilla, and most recently “Ocean Spray.” The mixtape also features “Keep It Low,” his breakneck collaboration with Future, which sounds as if it’s going to leap out of your speakers and rattle around the inside of your car; as well as additional collaborations with Fridayy, Bagg’s signee, YTB FATT, Shott Off, and Lil Durk.

Prior to Hard To Love, Moneybagg Yo shared his chart-topping album, A Gangsta’s Pain, which was the fourth highest selling rap album of 2021.  The RIAA certified Platinum album was listed “Best Albums of 2021” by The New York Times, Billboard, Complex, XXL, Uproxx, and more. In addition to his album going No. 1 he also topped the radio charts four times consecutively with “Said Sum,” “Time Today,” “Wockesha,” and “Scorpio.” Soon after he shared a collaboration with Yo Gotti, Mozzy, and Lil Poppa titled, “Big League,” which was chosen as the official song of the 2022 NBA Finals and can be found on the CMG compilation Gangsta Art.

In just a few short years, Moneybagg Yo has cemented himself as one of the most irresistible voices in the club and on the streets. He developed his label, Bread Gang Entertainment, his artist BIG30 (NLess Entertainment) was tapped as part of XXL’s latest Freshman Class, and his business endeavors extend to the restaurant industry in 2023, recently opening Cache 42 Kitchen and Cocktails in his hometown. The rapper has also been nominated for GRAMMY Awards,  Billboard Music Awards and iHeartRadio Award and collaborated with A-list stars like Kanye West, 2 Chainz, and YG. With Hard to Love, he adds another riveting chapter to his stellar discography.

Consistency is currency and Guchi’s dues are paid in full. The Afropop Act’s latest chess move is a two-sided release, succeeding her March 2023 piece titled “Relate”.

“All Over You” is the first of the double pack: an affectionate afro-jammer produced by Shugavybz and the second- “Mon Bébé”, is a snazzy French-titled tune produced by Kaelbeatz.

We are once again lured into Guchi’s wonderful world of sizzling romance and the two tracks give details from varying perspectives. The popstar gets assertive on “All Over You”, stating in clear terms, what she expects from this intoxicating affair. She takes on the persona of a clingy ride-or-die lover, ready to go to towering lengths to secure her relationship. Lyrics like “Kokoro Ife mi Jowo, I no go let you go (Please my love bug, I will not let you go)” bear testament to Guchi’s strong will to not only be but remain in love.

Mon bébé is more flirty and wispy in its rendition. From giving her goosebumps to sweet-treat comparisons, it is without a doubt that Guchi’s Bébé has her in a sweet and tight spot. In both songs, she uses linguistic fragments to drive deeper emotional meaning.

Randomly releasing two hits at once could have Guchi-loyalists wondering what she has up her sleeves. Could this be the pathway to a deluxe version of her 2022 EP – “Purple Diary”? Or could the singer be priming us up for yet another project?

Black Sherif says “The Homeless Song” was inspired by a period when he was actually homeless: 

There was a turning point in my life that I was homeless. And from that time, how I saw things changed. And a few of the songs that I put on the album, I had written before The Homeless Song. But I felt like that point, that pivoting could be a proper start. That’s why I put it first. Because it happened within 24 hours, like 16 hours back I was at home with my boys. Fast forward, not even 24 hours after, I’m homeless in a car. No place to stay. It be crazy. So I wrote that song just that night.

Black Sherif says that people call him Kwaku because of “Kwaku the Traveller,” along with other names that stem from his music:

With me, every three months there’s a sound growth in my studio. So every era of that sound growth, at all the evolutions, they have nicknames, they have alter egos and names and stuff. Because at first when I was starting to write music, I used to say Sad Man Story. And it went on, Blacko, Kwaku Killer, Kwaku Rasta. I have so many names in the streets and everybody know the name. Yeah. You could say, “Who is Kwaku Rasta?” I will tell you that’s Black Sherif. “Who’s Kwaku Killer?” Black Sherif. “Who is KK?” Black Sherif. They know the names. So I just leave it to whatever you want to call me, call me. People even call me by my auntie’s name, Auntie Mary. I’m like, “Yeah.” I said it in my song, that’s what you heard. Call me by that. Let’s go man. It’s a story. My mom call me Sherif. My dad call me Rasta. Kwaku Rasta.

Ebro Darden: And how did you get Burna Boy on Second Sermon? How did that come about?

Black Sherif: I think Burna heard Second Sermon.

Ebro Darden: He heard it and was like, “I need to get on that.”

Black Sherif: Yeah. Crazy.

Ebro Darden: And y’all keep a good relationship now?
