Jordan Dennis Returns With Single ‘Egyptian Lover’

Today, one of Australia’s most distinct voices – Melbourne rapper Jordan Dennis – returns with his new single ‘Egyptian Lover’. Unapologetically catchy from start to finish, sonorous bass takes hold immediately, seeing Jordan seamlessly transition between flowing rhythms to smooth falsetto, a testament to his musical adroitness. ‘Egyptian Lover’ follows a string of releases from Dennis, and features highly regarded rapper Dallas Woods and in-demand producer JUJO, with the three artists quickly developing a blossoming musical partnership which we’ll be hearing from a lot moving forward.

On the single, Jordan explains; ‘The track was written with the thought that we couldn’t wait to get out of lockdown, to socialise and to be with people. In a way that that reality was almost a distant fantasy, we might as well have been flying jet planes through Egypt….. wait… Dallas, JUJO and myself managed to create an amazing body of work when we did find those moments we could get together, of which this is the first to be released.’

Embracing a hometown-built reputation for dynamic on-stage energy, and matching it with equal fire in every release, Melbourne’s Jordan Dennis is on a fast-rising come up, garnering attention from tastemakers (both Australian and global) at every turn. From Dennis’ debut solo release in 2018’s neo-soul bop ‘Crumbs’ feat. Blush’ko, that sits at over 15 million streams (+ global syncs on Axe/Lynx Smell Ready Ad, Netflix’s On My Block and Kipo), to the smoother notes of ‘My Way’ and harder-hitting follow-up in ‘Glide Freestyle’, the whip-smart MC has continued to evolve in his expression with a fierce lyrical aptitude on display, first and foremost.

He’s dropped two EPs since 2019, HDMI1 and HDMI2 showcasing his development as an artist, seeing support from the likes of COLORS, Clash Magazine, Okayplayer along the way. The releases also showcased his malleability, standing out equally on smooth, silky tracks just as much as on some of his grittier singles – as well as his ability to collaborate with a wide range of artists and producers.

His lyricism and flow never cease to amaze, and he’s been celebrated as part of the latest Triple J Bars of Steel season, a selection in Acclaim 2020 All-Stars, while his energetic performances seeing him noted in the Big Sound 50 last year. He’s also injected his shockwave spirit into the Triple J Like A Version studio on multiple occasions, recently adding his own original verse on Tones And I’s rendition of ‘Forever Young’.

On the stage, where he truly comes to form, Dennis has delivered his passion and contagious presence across festival appearances at St. Jerome’s Laneway, Let Them Eat Cake and NYE on the Hill, as well as in support of  Baker Boy, Winston Surfshirt, Mr Carmack, Joe Kay,  TOKiMONSTA, and Tones and I. He first emerged as the front man for Billy Davis, whose 2017 album Family Portrait launched to international acclaim and saw support slots for the duo alongside Ruel, Anderson. Paak, NoName.

Jordan Dennis has, for too long, been one of the industry’s best kept secrets – something that’s bound to change very soon, with ‘Egyptian Lover’ another step toward domination.
