Actress, Juliet Ibrahim has launched the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization focused on creating awareness on kidney cancer and providing necessary interventions to ensure a society free of the condition within Ghana and Africa at large. According to the actress, the foundation was founded in her bid to be socially responsible, and it was especially inspired after a close relative encountered the life- threatening disease. The Juliet Ibrahim Foundation (JIF) aims to build a state-of-the-art kidney center for a better management of people with renal conditions/kidney diseases. It also aims to educate people on cancers and its effects on the Ghanaian society, as well as provide funds and necessary assistance to people with kidney cancer but cannot afford its management.
JIF shall collect funds to support hospitals and medical centers that manage kidney cancer, and serve as an advocate organization for awareness creation, education and promoting healthy life styles to avoid kidney failures. During the cocktail launch at the Zanzi Bar in Labone, Accra, a medical doctor made a presentation on the causes of kidney cancer and other renal diseases, the rate prevalence in Ghana and some lifestyle tips on how to stay healthy and how to avoid kidney related diseases.
The foundation also revealed a number of programs and activities in the coming year aimed at achieving the goals of the foundation. This include ‘End It Now’ (EIN), a health campaign program which brings together music, movie and TV stars to support in educating the general public on the need to adopt good health practices to end health epidemics and diseases. There is also ‘October To Remember’, a concert aimed at raising funds to support JIF, and ‘Know It!’, a knowledge platform for medical practitioners, professionals and general public to dialogue on kidney related diseases.
The JIF Fund, which is a trust fund, has been established to encourage donors to contribute towards saving the lives of people with renal conditions who cannot afford medical treatment. The launch was supported by Juliet Ibrahim’s family and friends, colleague actors, musicians and the media. A special theme song and music video featuring several musician and actors was also unveiled at the launch and is expected to hit the airwaves soon.
