Koda Releases New Album – “Keteke”

Published

on

Celebrated Ghanaian gospel music artiste and producer, Kofi Owusu Dua Anto (KODA), has released his sixth album, “Keteke”. The all-round album, dropped on the first day of 2021 on all music platforms, is receiving rave reviews among music lovers and critics.

Prior to the album release, KODA had undertaken a coordinated campaign on social media that included live videos with resource persons discussing different topics bordering the church, music industry, life and the gospel, and posting video messages from the album’s featured artistes and production team, all to drive home an all important message of assurance and hope in the wake of the rollercoaster events on 2020 in “Keteke”. He also released two prelude singles of the album – the thanksgiving anthem, “Aseda”, and the confessional praise jam, “Game Over”, featuring Nigerian gospel music icon, Eben.

“Keteke” is a reference to the rickety train that paraded the western coastal lines of Takoradi (western Ghana) to Kumasi in the 70s and 80s. KODA draws a parallel between the eventful “Keteke” rides of his childhood and life events into a music project he believes will resonate with everyone.

He explains, “Fond memories of my childhood trips in Keteke to go see my grandparents in Kumasi were always eventful. However, no matter the challenges or experiences that fraught the journey, be it the engine, unannounced stops or delays, one is always assured of getting to his destination. This is same with life and the Christian walk. This album taps into my musical journey and mirrors the experiences on the “Keteke” with life by having songs that speak to the different phases of life and thereby relatable to real life situations of listeners. You will find songs of prayer, praise, thanksgiving, worship and more carved creatively in my musical influences – highlife, chorale, classical music, contemporary Christian music, reggae & more – on the album.”

The 12-track album features Ps. Joe Beechem, Joe Mettle, Harmonious Chorale, LIC Choir, Abigail Nkansah, Jumbo & Eben. The producers of the album include Francis Kweku Osei (Percussions, Drums & Horns) arrangements, Moise Atta (on Aseda) and KODA himself. The album is recorded, mixed and mastered by KODA’s Koded Studios in Takoradi, Ghana.

Rasheed Chappell and XP The Marxman hit Nostalgic Cords on “Sinful Saints”

Published

on

Rasheed Chappell of the East and XP the Marxman join forces together to bring out a nostalgic, groovy track titled “Sinful Saints,” one of the lead singles of their upcoming collaboration L.P.’ RX.’

This union of East meets West is unlike any collaboration previously. Rasheed Chappell is known as a poet amongst his peers, and his visual conjuring lyrics are often compared to Illmatic era Nas. XP The Marxman is an L.A.-based Mexican rapper who paints vivid narratives of his barrio and the world as he sees it.

Chappell has recently dropped two stellar projects with 38 Spesh, one of the hottest rappers in the game, as well as a much sought-after producer. Rasheed has also received critical acclaim for his “Sinners & Saints” L.P. produced by the legendary Buckwild of D.I.T.C.

XP The Marxman has been making his name known, sparring alongside Termanology, U.F.O. Fev, and the often imitated Roc Marciano. XP hit the mark on his “Make The Devil Pray” L.P., which was held in many circles as an album of the year contender.

Two halves of the same coin, each MC brings their experience and perspective of Hip Hop to the table – Rasheed’s of the African-American experience in the northeast and XP’s of the Mexican experience in the city of L.A. Both MC’s paint vivid pictures of street culture with equally dangerous wordplay and nuance worthy of the buzz term “connoisseur rap.”

Combined, these two emcees elevate each other’s artistry to levels unmatched in today’s current climate of gun & coke rap. Artists at their core, R.X. is the musical representation of the men and what made them. With production from Roc Marciano, Buckwild, Ice Rocks, and many more, this is more than an album; it’s an opus.

For now, “Sinful Saints” is a good teaser for an entire body of work set to release on November 17th.

L.A.’s next great storyteller, Nana releases new track “GOTW”

Published

on

Crenshaw-bred rapper Nana has just shared his new single “GOTW”. The track is a blend of classic West Coast production and the cut-throat lyricism Nana consistently delivers. The song details the come-up from Nana, from his humble beginnings in Crenshaw and how that experience shaped him into the artist he is today. Lyrics like “Man I been broke my whole life, I’m breaking the curse” show the hustle that Nana had to exude to reach the level of success he’s attained. “GOTW” is a warning shot to all his detractors, either support his blossoming career or simply put, get out of the way.

Nana’s had an impressive 2020 with the release of his project Save Yourself. The album weaves vivid stories of survival and redemption during these unprecedented times with guest features by REASON and Blakk Soul. A preacher’s kid growing up in the Crenshaw District of LA, Nana is determined to empower himself and inspire others to grow beyond the circumstances and environment from which they come from via thought-provoking lyrics and visuals wrapped up in quick-flows and impressive wordplay. Nana went on in 2021 to release the Save Yourself Session, a series of full-band, live performance of select tracks from Save Yourself coupled with interviews between Nana and other creatives. Larruso’s ‘’New Gen’’ EP arrives alongside all-new video for ‘Wolewa’ (Come Inside)’

Published

on

Afro-dancehall sensation, Larruso’s debut EP offers a feel-good experience that places him in the fore of Ghanaian dancehall music as he freewheels over a range of experimental melodies. Listen here: https://onerpm.lnk.to/NewGen-EP

Previewing with two singles prior to its official announcement ‘’New Gen’’ does not fall short of a smooth supply of tuneful beat selections and potential bangers. It is an aggregate of Larruso’s vision so far, meld together by familiar, yet refreshing concepts and a feature list accommodating of the young artist’s style.

The 8-track EP books features from the likes of the god MC, M.anifest, Suzzway, Nigeria’s very own, Bella Shmurda, Kelvyn Boy, Samini and J. Derobie, aside a compelling mix of producers which include The One, Beatz Dakay, Phantom, Jaemally, Gigz Beatz, Mix Master Garzy and Finchy.

For a project meant to inspire the prodigy’s avant-gardist role in his time, things are brought to a roaring start on the pre-released ‘New Gen’. Here, Larruso ushers in the age of this new generation he’s standing in for. ‘’We have a big dream and, how our family fit look past streets wey we dey pon?’’, he questions, backing up with chants and verses of empowerment. This invigorating theme persists into the EP’s first pre-released song ‘The Truth’ featuring the god MC, Manifest. On the soothing song, both artists free their energies into a pool of thoughts that are expressive of life in a country that grows increasingly hellish for the generation in question.

The tone of the EP hereafter shifts to a more ambient and easy-going sound ‘Body’ featuring Suzzway goes big on Larruso’s glossy vocals, while ‘Wolewa’ (Come Inside) featuring Nigeria’s very own, Bella Shmurda embraces a fun feel. The latter drops alongside a colorful video directed by Yaw Skyface and has lots of choreography to keep the song’s playfulness untouched. ‘Hit & Run’ isn’t far behind the explosive Afrobeat wave either, bearing the candid and fleeting emotions of the self-proclaimed nineties bad boy, before ushering in the project’s biggest in terms of collaborations ‘No Chance’.

Sweeping listeners back into his preferred domain ‘No Chance’ has Larruso tag Kelyvn Boy and Samini on the highly palatable Finchy production to make known their uncompromising nature to much finesse. ‘Addicted’ featuring J. Derobie slots in next to ferry listeners aboard the love express once more, yielding crooned verses of how special Larruso’s love interest is to him: ‘’Cause you know me and you have a different vibe/Make up your mind, come with me let’s ride’’. The finally EP comes to a soothing close thanks to Larruso’s resolute composure on solo effort ‘High Meditation’, in a bid to not to escape bad memories.

‘’New Gen’’ projects the Afro-dancehall star’s status as torchbearer in it’s entirety and is effortless in setting itself up as a benchmark for all dancehall EP’s to follow. Stream ‘’New Gen’’ by Larruso here:
