Lorrencia Nkrumah wins Jury’s special Prize in the Radio for Peace Building Awards in Kigali, Rwanda

lorencia NkrumahGhanaian journalist, Lorrencia Nkrumah was on the 19th of November adjudged the winner of the Jury’s special Prize in the Radio for Peace Building Awards held in Kigali, Rwanda. The awards organized by Search for Common Ground, an international non-governmental organisation, seeks to recognize African journalists for their high quality radio programmes that contributes to promoting peace and tolerance on the Africa continent. The competition, which was open to all radio journalists in Africa, was organised as part of Search for Common Ground’s Radio for Peacebuilding Africa Project (RFPA). This project aims to strengthen the professionalisation of African media practitioners to provide accurate, credible, balanced and useful information to the populations This year’s awards saw other two journalists from Burundi and South Africa win the Media and Youth Award respectively. Commenting on Lorrencia Nkrumah’s Award, the jury said, ‘’ This winning programme, dubbed, ‘’Children of the North’’ discusses the state of schools in Ghana. It showcases the education system in different perspectives, from schools that are progressing well to those that are unfortunately lagging behind.’’ The jury was impressed by the quality of the programme and praised it for its inclusive approach of investigating key players in the education system For her part, Lorrencia Nkrumah said, she was honored to have won the award which will go a long way to inspire her to do more whiles bringing change in her community’’ She was until recently a Business Reporter at Accra Based Citi FM.
