Manchester United is up for sale
The news that lots of Manchester United fans have been waiting for and one that should signal the end of the Glazer’s ownership of the entire club. It comes during the Premier League break while the World Cup is kicking off over in Qatar, this site will give you all the best World Cup odds, that one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League will be looking to sell up.
Background to the Glazer ownership
There have been problems with the ownership of Manchester United ever since the club was acquired by the American owners back in 2005. It was protested by the Manchester United fans when they realised that the Glazers would be bringing in all their debt and dumping it on Manchester United. The Glazers have since siphoned off money for their own greed and not put in a single penny; the money is all the revenue from Manchester United football club not from the Glazers.
Protests have been ramped up in the past two years due to failings on the pitch and the lack of ambition from the board but protests are nothing new about the ownership. There were huge protests from the club in 2007 and 2010, even in between, there were anti-Glazer chants.
The times under the Glazers have not been all doom and gloom on the pitch with Sir Alex Ferguson papering up the cracks for many years with his managerial prowess but in recent years, since his departure and the departure of David Gill the CEO. The major issue was the arrival of Ed Woodward who was good friends with the Glazers and not a footballing economical man. This has left the club light years behind rivals and money spent unwisely over the past 10 years.
Will the departure help improve the standards of the club?
The club has been left to rot with poor training facilities and Old Trafford needs serious improvements to help keep it the Theatre of Dreams, especially in the current space.
One of the main issues is the structure of the club with poor judgement on players and over spending on players that were not worth the value. United seem to have the right man in charge with Erik ten Hag gaining respect from fans and players, maybe not Cristiano Ronaldo, but he needs support and help along the way which previous managers have found difficult when working with the Glazers.
Why now?
Well if you ask any Cristiano Ronaldo fanboy they will say off the back of his interview. However, nowhere in the interview does he really lay into the Glazers for them to sell up. Yes, he criticises his now former employees over facilities but he also used the interview as a distraction technique because he is not performing on the pitch as father time catches up to him.
Some have speculated that the Middle East is at an all-time high due to the World Cup currently being held in Qatar and Saudi Arabia beating Argentina. Many feel this is the ideal opportunity to get the £4-8 billion the Glazers are expected to want.
However, there has been so much speculation about Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is still interested in a football club after he failed in acquiring Chelsea.
This story has only just begun but with the Glazers wanting to leave it is good news for United fans but it could be a difficult path ahead if they have to question their moral compass with bids expected to come from countries with poor human rights records.
