Mariah Carey Confirms Heartbreaking Loss of Mother and Sister Over the Weekend

American music icon Mariah Carey has confirmed the tragic loss of both her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, who passed away on the same day last weekend.

The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter announced this in a statement on Monday, August 26, 2024, without disclosing the causes of death or the exact date.

My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I was blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” Carey shared.

Patricia Carey, who passed away before her daughter, was a celebrated opera singer who had previously collaborated with Mariah. Mariah has often credited her mother as the inspiration behind her music career.

In contrast, Carey had a strained relationship with her sister, Alison
