She was unanimously appointed by members of the Federal Parliamentary Assembly of the Ethiopian parliament on 25 October 2018 in a move hailed as setting a new standard for women in the East African nation, the Prime Minister’s chief of staff announced Thursday. Sahle-Work, 69, has served since June as the United Nation’s special representative to the African Union as an under-secretary-general. She also has held top diplomatic posts representing Ethiopia in France and Djibouti.   Until 2011, Sahle-Work served as Special Representative of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peace-building Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA). In 2011, Ban appointed Sahle-Work as Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). In June 2018, Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Sahle-Work as his Special Representative to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) at the level of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. https://twitter.com/SahleWorkZewde/status/1052570134911451136]]>
