Model, philanthropist and former Miss Universe Ghana, Menaye Donkor, who is now Miss Universe Ghana 2017 National Director, has postponed the launch of the pageant which was scheduled for June 1, to mourn the loss of her father-in-law.

A statement from the wife of Ghanaian midfielder. Sully Muntari said: “Sorry to inform you that due to the death of my father in law, the Press Launch event scheduled for June 1st has been postponed to the 8th of June. I am deeply sorry for any inconveniences. Thank you for your continuous support. I still look forward to seeing you.”

Sulley Muntari has lost his father Alhaji Muniru after battling illness. Alhaji Muniru who has been unwell for a period, passed on Monday afternoon.

The man known as Alhaji Muniru Muntari aka ‘Coach’ has been battling illness for some time now and a family friend confirmed the news. He passed on at the 37 Military Hospital on Monday afternoon after he was rushed there on Sunday evening following excessive pain.

The devout Muslim will be buried according to Islamic tradition on Tuesday morning. The Ghanaian-Nigerian has been influential in the life of  the tough tackling midfielder including coming out to apologize to the public on behalf of his son after the 32-year-old’s misconduct in the Black Stars team.

He is also the father of midfielder Muniru Muntari. Muniru, who plies his trade in Romania FC Steaua București posted on social media:

Police brutality is slapping someone cooperating and already in cuffs – musician NY Melody

The Ghana Police Service arrested 29 people on Tuesday after dispersing a violent anti-cost protest in Accra with tear gas. The protest took a turn for the worse when protesters engaged in a violent exchange with police, injuring 12 officers and leading to the arrest of some of the protesters.

Following the incident, many Ghanaians, both inside and outside the country, have come out to condemn the police and protesters’ violent actions.

One video that went viral from the incident showed a police officer beating a handcuffed protester who was clearly not resisting arrest. The video sparked an online outrage, with “Be My Love” singer NY Melody among those quick to condemn the officer’s actions.

The musician later posted a video in which he expressed his disappointment at seeing the video. For him, the police officer was abusing his authority, and slapping someone who was already handcuffed was completely unnecessary.

“We live in a democracy, and in a democracy, we have the right to demonstrate when something bothers us.” The police, also known as “Peace Officers,” are supposed to keep the peace and order no matter what environment they are in.”

Imagine what would have happened if the protesters had retaliated in response to the slap. The cops should have known better; they should have some emotional intelligence. “Police brutality is slapping someone already in cuffs who isn’t resisting arrest.” he said.
