Mercy Johnson’s husband escapes assassination attempt on eve of Edo election
Prince Odianosen Okojie, the husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at his residence, allegedly carried out by armed individuals believed to be political thugs.
This was disclosed by Okojie’s media representative, Michael Ihaza, in a statement issued on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Ihaza reported that gunmen posing as police officers, driving a Lexus GX 470 with Rivers State license plate PHC 253 FF, attacked the politician at his home. Fortunately, security personnel assigned to Okojie thwarted the assassination attempt by confronting the attackers.
“It was unsuccessful owing to the intervention of security personnel attached to the lawmaker.
“The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment and proceeded to the seating room.
“Following the intervention of the security personnel attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and another who are currently being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi,” he noted.
Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The incident occurred just before the Governorship election in the South-South State, during which Okojie has openly supported the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
As of the time of this report, the Edo State Police Command has not yet commented on the incident.
