The Chilean singer-songwriter was met with cheers as she took to the festival’s main stage on Friday, April 12 in Indio, California. Not only was kicking off the artsy event’s 20th edition, but the 35-year-old star was also fulfilling a dream of her own. While the Chilean super star has been celebrating wild success as the most listened to Chilean artist worldwide, she still has more goals to meet, and it seems playing at Coachella was one of them!
The 8-time Latin Grammy nominee, she arrived at the main stage of the most important music festival held in Indio, California, to show the first of the 2 shows she will offer, being the next one on April 19.
Mon Laferte’s taste for music manifested itself at an early age, where she achieved great recognition in her native Chile. Later, she settled in Mexico City. In 2016, she released her album Mon Laferte Vol. 1 with which she won two MTV awards, two nominations for EMA’s MTV awards, including Best New North Artist. This album was consolidated as one of the most important in Latin America and achieved certifications in different countries of the continent.
In Peru it was a platinum record, Mexico awarded it the quadruple platinum plus gold record. In Chile she received sixteen platinum records. In addition to all this, she won two Latin Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Album of the Year. For 2017, she achieved international recognition with a historical presentation in Viña del Mar, where she received the Silver and Gold Gaviota.
This same year, she presented her La Trenza production, which in a short time became a diamond album plus gold in Mexico having collaborations with Enrique Bunbury, Juanes and Manuel García. In 2018 she premiered her fifth material, Norma, with 10 songs recorded in a single session at the mythical studios of Capitol Records in Los Angeles, under the production of Omar Rodríguez – López. Listed by Billboard and Rolling Stone as one of the best Latin albums of 2018.
A great year where she was invited to the concert of Plácido Domingo in Chile as well as participating in the Lollapalooza edition of that country, she toured 20 cities in the United States together with Juanes with their Amarte Tour with more than 100 thousand attendees, she led the MTV Miaw in Mexico, she was nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Song of the Year, she appeared twice at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas and to close the year, she participated next to Gwen Stefani in The Voice and Jimmy Kimmel Show in the United States.

The Un Certain Regard Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes
The Canadian actor, director, screenwriter and producer Xavier Dolan will be the President of the Un Certain Regard Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes. He will be joined by French-Senegalese screenwriter and director Maïmouna Doucouré, Moroccan director, screenwriter and producer Asmae El Moudir, German-Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps, and American film critic, director, and writer Todd McCarthy. They will be in charge of awarding prizes for the Un Certain Regard section, which showcases art and discovery films by young auteurs.
This year, 18 films have been selected, including 8 first films. The 2023 Un Certain Regard top prize went to director Molly Manning Walker’s debut feature How to Have Sex.
When the light breaks by Rúnar Rúnarsson will open the Un Certain Regard section on Wednesday May 15, 2024.
