In July,  Jay Gunz, a rapper based in the Bronx, New York was killed in a shooting. According to New York Police Department (NYPD),  Police Officers from the 44 Precinct responded to a 911 call for a male shot at 306 East 171 Street. Upon arrival, they discovered three males with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims, later died from their injuries.

Jay Gunz was originally from Sekondi and his real name was Joel Quist Baba.  Joel’s funeral viewing was held on Friday  August 21 at the Parkchester Funeral Home on 4130 Union Port Road. According to reports, during the funeral, his mother, Jamila Addo fainted. She sadly passed away on Monday, August 24 according to sources.

A 28-year-old man was arrested over the shooting of Joel and his friends. Kalvin Robinson was arrested  on charges of murder, attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said Robinson opened fire on three men as they entered a building on July 5 in the Claremont section. Joel Baba, 22, and Eghosa Imafidon, 27, were killed.  Authorities also arraigned a Staten Island man on  linked to a drive-by slaying of a father in the Bronx right in front of his 6-year-old daughter moments before the incident involving Joel Baba and his friends.

Prosecutors from the office of Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark allege that Stapleton resident Laquan Heyward, 25, was in the car out of which two bullets hit 29-year-old Anthony Robinson in the torso, killing him.  Authorities charged Heyward with his alleged co-conspirators Davon Delks and Devon Vines,  who prosecutors say were also in the car along with Joel Baba,  and a driver who has not been apprehended.

Surveillance footage capture the incident and shows Robinson crossing the street while holding his daughter’s hand. The girl was not harmed in the incident.

Baba and Eghosa Imafidon, 23, died a few hours after the attack on Robinson when they were shot inside a Bronx apartment building just blocks away in an incident investigators have said they believe was retaliatory. All the other people involved were from the Bronx.
