DStv viewers can tune in to exciting movies, series and documentaries this week. The highlights include: The Talk II: This new daytime talk show features a panel of well-known news and entertainment personalities who examine topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of mothers. The daily, one-hour series is hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur. The hosts—moms with children ranging in age from infant to adult— swap stories, challenge each other on issues and engage the studio audience and viewers at home about events in the headlines and their own homes through the lens of motherhood. Show segments include guest interviews with entertainers and newsmakers, live remotes from the field and personal home footage shot by the hosts themselves. Solitary Man: Michael Douglas stars in this dialogue-driven comedy drama about an ethically challenged New York businessman who finds his life falling apart due to a series of career missteps and personal foul-ups. Once upon a time, Ben Kalmen (Douglas) had everything a man could possibly want – a high-paying job, a beautiful wife, and a spacious Manhattan apartment – but now all of that is a distant memory. The former owner of a successful auto dealership, Ben has recently lost everything thanks to his own inability to resist his impulses. But the resilient Ben isn’t the type of guy to stay down for the count, and lately things are starting to look up for him again. The Con Artist: A notorious car thief endeavors to reinvent himself as an emerging artist after being paroled from prison, only to find that his former handler isn’t willing to let him go without a fight. When Vince’s unusual metal sculptures catch the attention of sophisticated art dealer Belinda, the former bandit takes the art world by storm. Meanwhile, Vince’s former boss Kranski vows to do everything in his power to get his best operative back to work – even if it means playing dirty. Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child (Premiere): September 18th 2010 is the 40th anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix. This film uses the guitarist’s own words to tell the story of Jimi’s remarkable life, tracing his roots from his hardscrabble Seattle upbringing to his stint as a US Army Paratrooper as a member of the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. DStv audiences can tune into BBC Knowledge from Sunday 1 January at 21:00 CAT to watch Jimi’s own account of his journey as a non-descript sideman to R&B stars such as Little Richard on the famed ‘Chitlin’ Circuit to his decision to move from Nashville to New York in search of a dream. Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child is filled with never before seen photographs and film footage from the Hendrix family archive. The project features a soundtrack that includes such legendary Hendrix songs as ‘Purple Haze’, ‘Hey Joe’, ‘Fire’, ‘Voodoo Child’, together with never before heard live performances, studio recordings and demos – including some of the final songs Hendrix was writing and recording just before his untimely death in September 1970.]]>
